Moody's upgrades its outlook for the equity REIT industry to Stable. The sector is "well positioned to handle the fragile economic outlook and the potential for rising interest rates," the ratings agency says, in a new report. Moody's Senior VP notes that REITs have "access to multiple capital sources … at historically low rates that have lengthened their debt maturity profiles," boosted earnings, and increased fixed charge coverage ratios.

I becameparticularly interested in buying stocks and shares when I realised that my pension administrators were making a very poor job of it. Their investments were pathetic. I have been very lucky so far, having started about a year ago. I bought BASF shares at €60 and sold at €71 about 9 months later. I have invested in AIG and AMT in recent months and both have risen well. I am going to be reasonably careful and sell if things look like they are going downhill. I hold Kerry and JNJ shares for the last two years and will hold these long term.
