The next Xbox will be unveiled at a May 21 event, Microsoft (MSFT +3.5%) all but states in an invite sent out today - The Verge reported as much earlier this month. The rumor mill suggests the console, expected to be called the Xbox 720, will have an 8-core AMD CPU (similar to the one in the PS4), a Blu-ray player, and a refreshed Kinect, and (in what could be particularly important, given Microsoft's living room ambitions) might also be accompanied by an inexpensive Xbox set-top focused on casual gaming and media consumption.

360 is going in a circle. 720 is going nowhere twice. What about calling it "Xbox Blue?"

Good point. And the third generation will be named Vertigo (1080 is three times around and it is not nowhere, it is vertigo).

I *think* the big news here is that last little bit at the bottom, the "inexpensive Xbox set-top focused on casual gaming and media consumption."

If I'm right, this will be huge! I believe it will be powered by Windows 8/9 and be yet another massive draw to the Microsoft, and in particular Windows Phone ecosystem.

Microsoft will then own the home entertainment platform, desktop, enterprise, and have a reasonable contenders in tablets and smartphones.

    Yes, go go Microsoft ecosystem!
