Market recap: The path of least resistance for stocks remains upward, as the S&P set a new closing high and the Nasdaq ended at its best level since Nov. 2000. The tech sector, a laggard for much of this year, led the way, as Apple, Microsoft and IBM all rose at least 2.5%. Energy and materials also traded strong as commodities rebounded; crude oil pushed 1.6% higher to $94.50, and gold rose 1% to $1,467.
