  • Down another 18% to $1.18, it isn't all that far away. But the question is still valid: Why isn't GM $0.00?

    Many own the stock with other people's money and think that 0 is close enough to $1. Others think it is "an option" (which is true as well of a lottery ticket)

    The chat rooms are full of recommendations to buy FNM and AIG.

    The bottom line is that many people who trade equities do not understand accounting. If they did, they would buy the debt to gain equity exposure which is the logical thing to do if one has a positive view.

    A few are buying it for shorts I suppose, but otherwise I think it has to be pure ignorance or pure speculation (or both).
