Heres a question...with GM and Chrysler now owned by the union and the Government...will they ALLOW Ford to survive?????? Will Ford get any Government Fleet contracts or will they ALL go to GM and Chrysler to MAKE them seem successful...interesting questions..what if Ford donates to Republicans????
I suppose one risk factor out of all this is that UAWChrysler and NewGM could have a competitive advantage over Ford (F). However, I think the rental car market sustained GM for a long time, and that might be a bigger unknown into the future. Perhaps checking how the various rental cars agencies are performing might give a better indication.
Just due to deterioration and repair expenses, people will eventually need to buy cars, and keep buying cars. That does not imply that people will buy at the levels of the recent past. It also does not imply that people will necessarily be buying a Ford.
The model for the near term could look more like AIG. Many insurance companies complained about an unfair advantage of AIG under-bidding some contracts. The same is a real possibility from UAWChrysler and NewGM. However, people are less inclined to buy on cheapness than perception of quality, otherwwise Tata Motors could enter the US market and make a shambles of all automotive companies.
I do see Ford (F) surviving, to answer one of your questions directly. I would also expect them to become a DOW Index component very soon. However, after some consideration, I would not be buying stock in Ford.

Stone Fox Capital: Will healthcare trigger a sell off or just a buying opportunity? All likely depends on whether the fallout leads to more Obama or less.
