Considering the embarrassment that passes for politics in Albany these days (yes, I live in New York state), this wouldn't surprise me.

Just what the Empire State needs, a shot of testosterone. Instead of paying for escorts, just woo them with gifts and apartments like the Eurosocialists, reference Sarkozy, Mitterand and Lord (fill in the blank) and you'll be admired for having mistresses rather than prosecuted for sneaking about with hookers.

Oh, and perp-walk a few Wallstreeters and the peepul will love you.

the guy was under 'Patriot Act' surveillance 24/7 because of his meddling in Wall Street and ratings agencies. Real dumb move with the floozy though.

The author says "But it's sure fun to think about". What a moron.

The problem in this country is that we keep re-electing the same corrupt, dishonest hacks. That's why "We The People" keep getting screwed.

Spitzer single handedly did more to keep Wall Street honest than the entire Bush Administration did in 8 Years, and that was BEFORE wall street bashing became a national pass time.
Cut off his Viagra prescription and put him in charge of the SEC.

I live in NYC and i actually passed by him just today, as long as he did not use tax payers money or time i couldn't care who he does and how much he pays for it. What's going on in Albany right now is a joke, 90% of the politicians there are a joke and dont deserve the jobs they have because there are way more qualified and more ethical people to do that job for those type of perks. One thing i would say for Spitzer is that he is much more qualified and more clean then most people in power today, even though I know il probably catch a lot of slack for that one.

On-top of everything else, according to some of the remarks attributed to the young lady, Mr. Spitzer apparently wanted to both bang that girl without using a condom and in a "certain kind of different position" which would be highly dangerous from a sexually transmitted disease standpoint.

So, while I've always questioned how his marriage of convenience has stood up to the TRASHING and FLOGGING and HUMILIATION that came with his wretched downfall ... I also have to wonder about the guy's utter common sense (his moral compass has clearly been lacking, obviously).

But no matter what else, how can you be a "virtue of law and order", passing judgment on others while also writing the laws that govern, and "by night", be some degenerate womanizer who apparently gives his "daytime wife" some sort of "potion" to make her "forget that he isn't around all that much at night".

Spitzer might have "kicked butts, taken names" in his public role, but that's over now. His billions of dollars (or hundreds of millions) can't redeem his reputation, even if Sy Newhouse is "in-bed" with him politically or familiarly ..even a Barbara Walters special, or a "special guest appearance on Jon & Kate Plus 8" (which I would pay to see, btw, all kidding aside!), can't redeem this FRAUD OF A PATHETIC HUMAN BEING.

Memo to Mr. Spitzer: Spend the rest of your days not STOKING your ego, and FOCUS ON REDEEMING YOURSELF IN THE EYES OF YOUR FAMILY and CLOSEST FRIENDS.

Really, we're over you ... don't let the door hit you on the way out. The world will get along fine without you, thanks.

Eliot Spitzer is utterly brilliant and not only should be back in politics, but should be the President of the United States. If I could, I would throw Obama out and put him in (and I voted wholeheartedly for Obama.)

Spitzer is smarter than Obama, isn't naive and in bed with the bankers like Obama, is fairer minded, and has titanium ballls rather than just brass ones.

Its too bad some people give a rats asss about his sexx life. That's his business, NOT YOURS.

If you don't understand where I'm coming from, then just LISTEN to Spitzer talk for 15 min. He is amazingly intelligent, focused, articulate and in command of the facts, and its a real pleasure to realize that this guy's mind can really exist in a human body.

There was nothing "clean" about Spitzer, unless you think "clean" is using the power of government to threaten and bully private business with endless lawsuits and/or specious criminal complaints if the business owners do not yield to political wants.

You obviously have subscribed to the liberal view that Spitzer was a man of the people...populist defender of the common man. You need to to take a better-- and more objective-- look at what he did during his career.

And the relative moralism argument that he is " more qualified and more clean" than some others in politics is PRECISELY the unprincipled reasoning that gets the "Spitzers" elected.

    Spitzer should be in prison.

Wonder what vices the Spitzer defenders have that make his rehab such an imperative? Perhaps there is more than a bit of truth to the saying that liberalism is a disease.

My take is different than most of the posters so here it is:
Did Elliott Spitzer use his office for personal gain? - From what I know the answer is "No". Did he proactively take on various, powerful interests for the well being of citizens of the State of New York ? Yes. Did he excercise poor judgement, place his personal life and family at risk and (in the process) break laws in engaging with prostitutes- No question. Did he take accountability, resign, and bear the personal and professional consequences - "Yes". I guess where I get to is that in the main he was probably an egomaniac (All politicians are) but had enough of a moral compass to not abuse the trust of the citizens who elected him in the performance of his duty, where by most accounts he was effective. Let his wife and family deal with his personal transgressions. Compared to the behavior of our current batch of leaders (Paulson with his Goldman Sachs/AIG connections, No investigation of Madoff over 7+ years with substantial evidence, inability of current Obama administration to account for 100's of billions of dollars, waiting 90 days to re-institute the uptick rule after delaying action on that bill for months and Obama and Bush/Paulson actually honoring the CDS/OTC derivitives on taxpayers backs)..It may be that we need to temper and focus our moral outrage into areas that actually impact us. Elliott Spitzer sleeping with a call girl doesn't qualify for me. Paulson/ Geithner and the bankrupting of the United States does. If Spitzer could help the United States get back on firm footing, he'd get my vote tomorrow.

What's worse - A state attorney general with sexual indiscretions, or a Treasury secretary who's a tax cheat ? Wake up puritans.

Liberalism is indeed a disease. It is recognizable by the constant need to defend stupid and/or criminal conduct by suggesting the name(s) of someone who did something worse. For example, defending Obama's inane spending by "What about all the money Bush spent?" Or defending Spitzer by comparing him to others who have disgraced their public position in a way that may be even more depraved.
There is no analytical or intelligent argument offered, no recognition that maybe all who would betray public trust should be summarily booted out, instead worshipped as some sort of icon. It is always "What he did was not as bad as so-and so". Unless, of course, the offendor is not a fellow liberal-- then they must jailed, or worse.
