With Boone Pickens' 'windmill in every backyard' (except his) plan on the backburner, Ray Harvey makes an awesome case against Pickens' calls for massive subsidization of the wind-power industry, and explains why the public "hasn't even begun to grasp nuclear energy."
Sounds like the "backyard" furnaces of China's Great Leap Forward from the late 1950s. Double annual "steel" output, while diminishing its value and quality.
nuclear also has the benefit that a very substantial percentage of the investment dollars stay in the domestic economy....not much "leakage" in econo-speak. The stimulus rebates to consumers mostly benefit the Chinese economy .....good logic from our "dear leader"
Great article. "...As with ethanol and recycling and a host of other issues, you must ask yourself again, if these things are so efficient, why do they need to be subsidized? Answer: they're not so efficient..."
Enough said.
Why is the Left so addicted to OPM (other people's money)? Why won't they invest their own in their millennial projects (light rail, solar, etc.)?

Warming fears are the “worst scientific scandal in the history…When people come to know what the truth is, they will feel deceived by science and scientists.” - UN IPCC Japanese Scientist Dr. Kiminori Itoh, an award-winning PhD environmental physical chemist.
I think it is important to research and develop several sources of energy including wind, solar, nuclear, sugarcane based ethanol, algae based biodiesel. Is it not wise to diversify.
At 20% of our electrical power coming from nuclear, it is already quite prominant in America. There are NO new projects being contemplated right now ANYWHERE in the US. The cost of each plant easily reaches 7-8 billion each. The biggest risk is the liability involved in case of accident. The makes most power companies shudder at the thought. Once the plant is built the maintenance costs are quite low. At lot of countries use nuclear, I believe France s 80% Nuculear. Canada is building one new one in New Brunswick. The two Canadian Candu Maple reactors turned out to be non functional after they were built never coming online. This turned out to be a political nightmare, so I imagine news travels fast. Its a lot of money for a no show.
Gwyneth Cravens wrote a good primer on Nuclear from the vantage point of a self-proclaimed anti-nuke protester, reborn as a nuclear proponent. Power To Save the World. She details the entire life cycle, issues, misconceptions, truths. Good read. www.amazon.com/Power-S...

Also, WSJ had a good piece two weeks ago penned by the principal inventor of ethernet, Bob Metcalfe, stating that we need to push for small scale nuclear, and that energy was clearly the technology where we need to pour our investment dollars. online.wsj.com/article...
Nuclear, may be the most potent, misunderstood technology we have ever harnessed. Imagine if the internet got shelved because ignorant censors thought it was too dangerous. We wouldn't be having this discussion. Thousands of subs, ships, and power plants are likely not wrong.
OK so the ol' T-bone was "wrong" about wind power in terms of grid, time and economy. I'm sure the other ol' billionaires, like Warren and Soros are/were wrong too, from time to time and often big time at that. But if we go a bit beyond the personal... and Hrrmmm, come to think, they are still billionaires, no? What, really, in addition to and beyond the wind energy, I think Mr. Pickens is pointing out, is the importance for us of truly to consider our energy dependency, and therefore financial and strategic dependency re energy. .... including our continually sending mega $ to often "unfriendly" xyz countries, especially when we now apparently have such mind-boggling abundance of NatGas here in the USA! Of course, it's not only coming from him. All of a sudden we now hear that our country has more natgas/energy in terms of BTU than the Saudis have oil! That's great! To me, this Is also, seriously, if ever a "stop everything!?" - an "IBM' moment to actually "think"... and then think deeply... and, oy-oy, even act. !!!? Why are we still talking nuke, solar, expensive batteries??? if we have all this cheap natgas energy?

If we do not speak up soon, it will be too late for our economy. Cap and Trade may well be the final nail in the coffin.
Take the time to watch this video that includes IPCC scientists:
