  • Matt Taibbi's 9,966-word evisceration of Goldman Sachs (GS), The Great American Bubble Machine, wins an award for outstanding journalism: "Taibbi is the first journalist to use the right combination of history, intelligence, investigation and moral outrage to chart the remarkable depth and breadth of Goldman's role in creating America's financial meltdown."

The article was not as good as the blogosphere makes it up to be. There were many factual errors, especially the part about Goldman blowing the bubble of oil. It was so much more than speculation - it was the falling dollar, rising demand, overall bull market for commodities and then it was the speculation. It is very naive to think that Goldman alone could've done it.

Having done so much research on Goldman and the world of finance and writing such a long article on it (and taking the courageous step of publicly pouring the dirt of truth on Goldman), I think Taibbi made a mistake by not including some essential factors behind the oil price rise, which weakens his case against Goldman's oil price speculation.

I do give Taibbi credit for opening the topic up for discussion. The article had much truth to it but I think he could've done a better job by including more facts. All in all, he deserves the award as he is one of the few journalists left who are not afraid of telling (writing) things as they are.

Congrat's Matt on Hillman/Sidney Award. Tracing and highlighting the GS head and tentacles has shown that the Wizard of Oz had NOTHING on these guys. But, it's not a conspiracy when it's done in plain view, is it?

Maybe he will be thrown into a black box at Goldman Sachs and "flash traded".
