Always has been a clunker for a program. All it did was push future demand to now, as Americans are stupid and won't turn down free money that is given to them by other taxpayers.

Banksters and Wall St types just hate it when there is competition for what they believe to be their money. How dare mere citizens use the Bankster's bail out funds!

It was a mere shot of adrenalin for an exhausted marathon runner.

Steps such as this reveal, simultaeously, the gravity of our times and the deficiencies of our elected officials.

Is it really good for the environment when you remove good cars and crush them that someone could use (charities or low income) so we can subsidize the people that can afford a new car? Of course it is not good for our wheezing capitalist system & this will be on life support if idiots think it works so well and will try to expand it to other industries.

I've been arguing for awhile that America has been shifting towards a neo-mercantilist economic framework. Cash-for-clunkers is yet more proof. It serves absolutely no legitimate economic, environmental, or societal function at all. It's an auto industry hand out - no more, no less.

But they just print more to make up for it... thats the ONLY reason for the rally... Quantitative easing & distribution of it.

Pretty gimmicky, isn't it? Now they have to "add staff" to cope with the rebate to the dealers. Why doesn't our Congress, both houses, settle down to do some really useful legislative work vice resorting to sales and marketing for themselves? Vote hungry enough? For God's Sake spend some time shoring up enforcing illegal immigration - which right now looks like a consensual rape of sorts.
