  • Another grim view on employment: Hours worked per person continues its nosedive, to the lowest average recorded (see chart) - another hint that the headline jobless numbers are hiding an awful lot more frustrated workers.

Last report I read said if those who are underemployed ( working less then 40 hrs) go back to full work week, it would equivalent of creating 3 million jobs, so before a company hires 1 person they will re instate hours for their underemployed, it could be years before we actually create new jobs

Awwwww! come on, the Anointed One referred to this as FUNemployment during his campaign. Strange how only Fox covered it.

better there than here announcing (with a straight, grim face) his new handout program (with money we do not have) of the day will create millions of jobs. it costs us less money have all these govt jokers out of our pay roll. teach them what unemployment is.

They must not check with our company. Since the cutbacks, the remaining employees are now working 27 days out of 28 (except mechanics and electricians who work the 28 day but are allowed a rotating day off during the month), and on shift 8 to 12 hours each day.

Well we passed the 40 hour workweek during the Depression to spread work around. It didn't really work so we'll probably try mandating a 32 hour work week.

The hours/week worked is not good news and will make job growth slower when demand picks up. But its just the result of total failure by our government and political "leaders".

We need to develop an industrial policy that includes energy. And then we need to spend our money on things that will last. No more transfer payments to individuals or states. Spend money on building new electric grid system, new nuclear power plants, battery technology, repairing bridges, research, etc.

And we need to start looking out for the good old USA. Bids from Aerobus for fuel tankers?? Rip those up, not going to export 30,000 jobs to France. Corporations "move" their headquarters to Dubai? - give us your passports and good luck as a UAE citizen and don't bother calling your congressman anymore because you aren't a citizen. Corporations paying executives $30 million while paying no taxes? Companies that pay less than a certain % of SALES in taxes have their executives pay taxed at 75%.

And we the people need to take some responsibility and start throwing out the bums in Congress. No more "my guy does a good job its just the others"....time to face the fact that in terms of elected officials.......lifetime "public servants" are just lifetime "leeches on society". Time to throw them out. Tax the pay of lobbyist three times the amount of normal citizens and don't allow lobbyist to earn more than the average private sector employee - bet we'll see fewer lobbyists - then they'd actually have to believe in the cause they represent. Its time to put the screws to those that have been using the system to screw us!!!

We all need to sacrifice. That mean higher taxes for myself, lower "benefits" for social security and medicare, fewer people on disability (basically if you can walk - even with pain - you can work), less spending on the military, and fewer bureaucrats. Social spending should be limited to our children and sustinence living for the elderly. Thats it - if you want more work for it......and no changing policies due to sob stories....life isn't fair and its about time folks in the USA got back to taking responsibility for themselves and their families as opposed to expecting the government to take care of them.
