  • A Lipper report shows that while mutual-fund expenses haven't changed much in the crisis, fees are a different story (.pdf) - going up, to keep income from plunging along with the assets. Felix Salmon sees the lesson: Stop trying to beat the market and switch to index funds or ETFs; mutual funds are changing from a mass-market product to a niche for elderly investors.
