A smartphone from Amazon (AMZN +0.2%) stands as the "logical next step" for the company given its status as a trusted seller of physical goods, according to ABI Research's Aapo Markkanen. An AMZN smartphone could also deliver what the firm's arsenal of e-readers can't - a truly mobile hardware device providing a 24-7 locked-in connection to the firm's content ecosystem. The latest example is LG, which plans to launch a beta version of its LG Cloud service (syncs content between PCs, Android phones, and LG TVs) tomorrow. Data center owners and providers of cloud infrastructure services, such as EQIX, RAX, DFT, and AMZN, might be the main beneficiaries of this gold rush. Market leader Dropbox relies on Amazon's S3 storage platform.
