A123 Systems (AONE -6.3%) is now off sharply on account of its Q4 warning, uncertain 2012 guidance, and delayed 10-K filing. Likely playing a role is a downgrade to Underperform from BofA: the firm sees short-term risk rising due to cost overruns, cash burn, and a lack of visibility and transparency. It's also worried A123's electric car battery may develop slowly, and face intense competition.

A123 Systems (AONE -12.2%) is off sharply after Wunderlich, which upgraded the company in October and defended it 2 weeks ago, downgrades it back to Sell on account of customer Fisker Automotive's most recent woes. Wunderlich believes Fisker will slash its production forecast for its Karma electric car even further, thereby hurting A123's battery sales.

A123 blames the shortfall on inventory reductions at customer Fisker Automotive, though the magnitude of the cut will likely raise questions about demand.
