More on Oracle/Acme Packet: The purchase of Acme, whose session border controllers shuffle VoIP traffic between networks, makes Oracle a telecom equipment firm. While Oracle sells plenty of software, servers, and storage to service providers, it hasn't yet made such a direct foray into infrastructure gear. However, Acme's solutions are differentiated by its Net-Net OS and other software, which arguably complement Oracle's service management and unified communications offerings for telcos and enterprises. ORCL -1.2%. APKT +22.9% to $29.42, slightly above the buyout price.

Acme Packet (APKT +5.7%) is shooting higher for the second day in a row (previous) - today's rally has reportedly been stoked by M&A speculation. A heavy short interest and a depressed stock price make for a volatile mix.
