    • U.S. stock index futures are up about 0.3%.
    • The 10-year Treasury yield fell as low as 2.04% in yesterday's early panicky action, but has bounced all the way back to 2.17%. Oil and gold are little-changed.

    • Beijing had to intervene to support the tumbling yuan overnight and the Shanghai Composite fell another 1.1%. Hong Kong dipped 2.4% and the Nikkei 1.6%.
    • Europe's adding to yesterday's big losses, down about another 2% at midday.
    • U.S. stock index futures are down 0.8% across the board.
    • Commodities, however, are seeing a modest bounce with crude oil up 1.7% to $43.82 per barrel, and gold up 0.9% to $1,118 per ounce.
    • The 10-year Treasury yield tumbled to as low as 2.04% overnight, but is now at 2.10% - still off four basis points on the session.

    • Experienced hands will remember it wasn't too long ago when the yuan's inevitable rise against the dollar was as sure as sure things come. It's the greenback everyone seems to want of late, and Beijing last night surprised all (though a 5% gain in Shanghai the previous session suggests some were in the know) with a 2% "one-off" devaluation of yuan.
    • Oil is lower by 1.7% and gold higher by 0.6% following the action. The dollar is flat.
    • In equities, Shanghai closed flat, and Germany (NYSEARCA:EWG) - which found the products to one of its key export markets just got more expensive - is leading Europe lower, down 1.5%.
    • Dow and S&P 500 futures are down 0.5%, and Nasdaq 100 down 0.1%.
    • ETFs: SPY, QQQ, DIA, SH, SSO, SDS, VOO, IVV, UPRO, PSQ, SPXU, TQQQ, SPXL, RSP, QID, SQQQ, QLD, DOG, DXD, RWL, UDOW, EPS, SDOW, DDM, VFINX, BXUB, QQEW, QQQE, SPLX, SFLA, BXUC, QQXT, SPUU, UDPIX, OTPIX, RYARX

    • U.S. stock index futures are starting the week in a more positive mood, all up by about 0.4%, as the Dow looks to break a seven-day losing streak.
    • The big news this morning is Berkshire Hathaway's $37.2B deal for Precision Castparts, which has sent the latter's shares up 19.6% premarket.
    • Moving across the globe: The Shanghai Composite finished the day 4.9% higher, as Chinese investors shrugged off weak trade data on bets for more government stimulus. Meanwhile, Greece is reportedly close to a final bailout accord after marathon talks with creditors over the weekend.
    • Crude futures have slightly rebounded away from six-year lows, while gold is little changed. The 10-year Treasury yield +2 bps to 2.19%

    • A September rate hike just got more certain after the U.S. economy added 215K jobs in July and the unemployment rate held at 5.3%.
    • 10-year Treasury prices initially knee-jerked down after the print, but have returned to about flat. The yield is flat at 2.22%. TLT +0.4%, TBT -0.8%
    • The dollar spiked higher and has remained there. UUP +0.3%
    • Both gold (NYSEARCA:GLD) and oil (NYSEARCA:USO) have turned modestly lower since the report, and stock index futures (SPY, DIA, QQQ) have added to losses, now down about 0.35%.
    • Previously: Inline jobs number means September rate hike still likely (Aug. 7)
    • Previously: Jobs up 215K in July; UE rate flat at 5.3% (Aug. 7)

    • U.S. stock index futures are little changed ahead of July's non-farm payrolls report, which will be the first of two releases before the Fed's highly anticipated September meeting.
    • Most economists expect employers to have added more than 220,000 workers last month, matching job gains in June, and providing further signs of an improving economy.
    • Asia headed higher overnight after the BOJ held its fire on more stimulus, while European shares are edging lower on soft German industrial data.
    • The 10-year Treasury yield -1 bps to 2.22%; Gold and oil are little-changed.

    • Trying to make sense of a torrent of earnings reports, U.S. stock index futures are flat about two hours before the open.
    • Europe's flat and Asia was modestly lower overnight. Moments ago, the Bank of England left policy unchanged, but sounded unexpectedly dovish in doing so, boosting the FTSE 100 by a bit and sending the pound tumbling.
    • The 10-year Treasury yield is down two basis points at 2.25% and gold is flat. Oil has returned to its lows for the year, off $0.43 per barrel this morning to $44.72.

    • August's first day of trading is following July's major themes - oil is leading commodities lower, European equities are up on earnings reports and Chinese shares slid on economic concerns.
    • The major headline today is the reopening of the Athens Stock Exchange. Greek shares took a 23% plunge early in the session, and are now down over 17%.
    • The 10-year Treasury yield is flat at 2.19%; Crude futures are down 1.5% to $46.42/bbl; Gold is lower by almost $3 per ounce to $1092.40

    • As expected, the FOMC left rates unchanged, but didn't commit itself one way or the other to any action in September. This could be interpreted dovishly as one might suppose today's statement would begin to lay the groundwork for a September hike were that the Fed's intention.
    • The Dow (DIA +0.5%), S&P 500 (SPY +0.5%), and Nasdaq 100 (QQQ +0.1%) all added a few points in the immediate aftermath of the 2 ET statement, but have returned to levels seen before the news.
    • Treasurys continue to take on water, with the 10-year yield up five basis points on the session to 2.30%. TLT -0.6%, TBT +1.2%
    • Fed Funds futures are pricing in about a 1-in-3 chance of a 25 basis points move in September.

    • The FOMC ends its two-day meeting today, and the policy statement will be released at 2 ET. A rate hike isn't expected, but perhaps markets will get an idea about whether the committee is leaning towards a move in September, or if recent global jitters and collapsing commodity prices have delayed action another three months.
    • Stock index futures are higher by 0.2% across the board.
    • Shanghai bounced 3.4% overnight and Europe is mixed.
    • The 10-year Treasury yield is up two basis points to 2.27%, gold is down $1 per ounce to $1,096, and oil is off $0.29 per barrel to $47.69.

    • Shanghai gave up 8.5% overnight as questions emerge about how much longer Beijing can prop up the collapsed bubble. Hong Kong tumbled 3.1% and the Nikkei 1%. Europe's lower by about 1.5%.
    • Coming of a tough close to a rough week last Friday, U.S. stock index futures are lower by about 0.55% across the board.
