    • Ecolab (NYSE:ECL) says it will stop consolidating results from its Venezuela operations into its company financial results beginning in Q1, citing deteriorating economic conditions and currency exchange control regulations that have significantly limited the ability of the Venezuelan business to maintain normal operations.
    • ECL says the move will result in a ~$120M pretax special charge in Q4 2015 on top of previously announced 2015 special charges totaling $155M related to Venezuela's bolivar devaluation.
    • ECL expects the combined impact of the bolivar devaluation and deconsolidation on operating results will hurt 2016 earnings by ~$0.17/share.

    • Ecolab (ECL -4.5%) is sharply lower after reporting in-line Q3 earnings and cutting its earnings outlook for Q4 and the full year.
    • For the year, ECL lowers its EPS estimate to $4.35-$4.45 from its previous estimate of $4.45-$4.60, reflecting expectations for worsening currency impacts, including those related to its energy segment in Venezuela; for the current quarter, ECL sees EPS of $1.20-$1.30 vs. $.134 analyst consensus estimate.
    • ECL says currency fluctuations negatively impacted Q3 EPS by $0.09; excluding currency impacts, ECL's Q3 energy segment net sales fell 12% to $927M, while industrial segment sales rose 7% to $1.27B and institutional segment sales gained 4.9% to $1.14B.

    • Ecolab (ECL -2.9%) is downgraded to Hold from Buy with a $125 price target at Deutsche Bank, which says that upside is limited in the near-term with ECL trading at 27x estimated 2015 EPS and shares are at a 60% premium to the S&P, in-line with its three- and five-year average relative P/Es.
    • While the firm sees ECL delivering on its Q3 and 2015 EPS targets, it also believes consensus 2016 EPS estimate of $5.16 is too high given continuing forex headwinds and moderating global growth.

    • Calgon Carbon (CCC -8.1%) is sharply lower after the Supreme Court ruled against the EPA's recent mercury emissions mandate, which sent coal stock prices soaring.

    • Ecolab (ECL -3.8%) opens sharply lower after missing estimates on Q1 earnings and revenues, and cutting its 2015 earnings guidance as low commodities prices weigh on its energy business.
    • Q1 revenues fell 1.2% Y/Y to nearly $3.3B, but sales rose 4% when excluding acquisitions and currency effects; net sales in ECL's global energy segment would have gained 1% Y/Y excluding currency impact, while industrial segment sales would have added 5% and institutional sales 6%.
    • ECL lowers guidance for FY 2015, sees EPS of $4.45-$4.60 vs. $4.60 analyst consensus estimate and below its previous forecast of $4.50-$4.70, and expects currency fluctuations to hurt 2015 sales by six percentage points and EPS by $0.30.
    • For Q2, ECL sees EPS of $1.05-$1.11 vs. $1.13 consensus, with currency translation and pension costs having a combined negative impact of $0.10/share.
