    • The ballistic missiles flight went from 500 to 600 kilometers, which is a distance far enough to strike all of South Korea including Busan," the South's military said in a statement.

    • South Korea has determined that Pyongyang is capable of mounting a nuclear warhead on its medium-range Rodong missile, which could strike targets in Russia, China, Japan and the Korean Peninsula.
    • The government's assessment, shared in a background briefing with foreign news media representatives in Seoul, followed a claim by ruler Kim Jong-un in March that his country had miniaturized nuclear warheads enough to mount on ballistic missiles.

    • The Kim regime has frequently issued bellicose statements, claiming that the divided Korean Peninsula was "on the brink of war," but the latest threat followed a highly unusual exchange of artillery shells across the two nations' border.

    • South Korea's economy recorded its weakest expansion in six years in Q2, recording just 0.3% growth from the previous quarter, as the country got battered by a MERS outbreak and a severe drought.
    • Lastly, New Zealand's central bank cut interest rates for the second time in six weeks, stating further easing would likely be necessary to stoke inflation.
