    The latest iSuppli report has Research in Motion (RIMM) and Apple (AAPL) passing Motorola (MOT) for fifth and sixth place in global cell-phone market share, as smartphones continue to gain ground against phones in general. RIM's offerings - which consist entirely of BlackBerry devices - narrowly missed passing Sony Ericsson (SNE, ERIC) as well.

    Acknowledging online sales haven't exceeded expectations, Google (GOOG) is shuttering the Web store for the Nexus One, converting it into a showcase for a variety of Android phones. The company says its phone will still be available through retail channels. "It’s clear that many customers like a hands-on experience before buying a phone," writes Engineering VP Andy Rubin.

    Google (GOOG -1.9%) CEO Eric Schmidt tells shareholders that its business in China is stable and he expects regulatory approval of the AdMob acquisition. About a report that Google would pay a $700M kill fee if the AdMob deal falls apart: "We don't expect to pay any kill fee because we expect these things to get approved."

    Four tech firms - Apple (AAPL), Microsoft (MSFT), Cisco (CSCO) and Google (GOOG) - sit on the largest cash piles in the S&P 500, excluding financials. It's a combined $147B, enough to bail out Greece. Possible uses for all that dough: Share buybacks, acquisitions such as SAP-Sybase and HP-Palm. Not likely: Dividend payouts.
