    Android (GOOG) has passed the iPhone (AAPL) in U.S. mobile market share, thanks to heavily promoted sales of the Droid phone at Verizon (VZ, VOD), NPD Group says. Android surged to 28% share in the first quarter, compared with iPhone's 21%; BlackBerry (RIMM) still leads at 36% of the market.

    If CEOs were paid according to shareholder return, Les Moonves (CBS) would take a $28M pay cut and Eric Schmidt (GOOG) would deserve a $17M raise, according to a model developed by Graef Crystal. Among others who were grossly overpaid: Frank Baldino (CEPH), Randall Stephenson (T), Antonio Perez (EK).

    The issue Apple (AAPL -1.3%) has with Flash, says Adobe (ADBE +0.4%) CTO Kevin Lynch, isn't that it doesn't work but that it does. "We don’t want to play technology games when Apple is playing a legal game... We’re focusing on everybody else." Sure enough, Flash showed up running well on a mysterious Android (GOOG +1.4%) tablet earlier this morning at Web 2.0.

    A surprise move from Microsoft (MSFT) to license patents to HTC means not only strange outcomes (MSFT making money on sales of each of HTC's handsets based on Google's (GOOG) Android but also bad news for Apple (AAPL), as HTC now has help from Microsoft against Apple's patent suit.

    Looking at the oddities around Google's (GOOG) Nexus One handset marketing - sold online instead of where people can hold it, with little or no advertising - and its setbacks (like Verizon Wireless (VZ, VOD) backing away), Jeff Bertolucci asks: Was it meant to be a flop? That is, as just a traction grabber for Android (at which it's been a success)?

    Verizon Wireless (VZ, VOD) backed off its plans to offer service for the Nexus One handset from Google (GOOG -2%) - which may be signaling Verizon views Google as more of a competitor than a partner. Up until this morning, the Nexus One site said the phone was coming to Verizon.
