    • German consumer products group Henkel (OTCPK:HENKY) is buying The Sun Products Corp from a fund of Vestar Capital Partners in a deal valued at about €3.2B ($3.5B) including debt.
    • The acquisition will add well-established laundry detergent and fabric conditioner brands to Henkel's portfolio and make it the No. 2 laundry care maker in North America behind Procter & Gamble (NYSE:PG).

    • Unilever (NYSE:UL), L'Oreal (OTCPK:LRLCF), Henkel (OTCPK:HENKY) and other companies have submitted first-round bids in an auction for hair care products maker Vogue International, which could value Vogue at $2.5B-$3B, Reuters reports.
    • The bids come three years after a lawsuit hurt Vogue's effort to sell itself; buyout firm Carlyle Group (NASDAQ:CG) acquired a 49% stake in the company last year.
    • Florida-based Vogue produces OGX shampoo, which has enjoyed strong growth propelled by its colorful packaging which stands out in drugstore aisles.

    • Coty (NYSE:COTY) +7.5% AH after the NY Post reports it has acquired three beauty products and fragrance lines from Procter & Gamble (NYSE:PG) for as much as $12B combined.
    • The businesses are believed to include PG's Max Factor, CoverGirl and Wella hair care brands, and would catapult Coty into the big leagues in the consumer space.
    • Other bidders reportedly had included Henkel (OTCPK:HENKY) and P-E firms KKR, Clayton Dubilier & Rice and Warburg Pincus.

    • The sale of the unit could fetch as much as $19B in one deal or several piecemeal transactions.

    Procter & Gamble (PG) is slapped with a €233.6M (~$310M) fine for fixing laundry detergent prices in France during 1997-2004; Colgate-Palmolive (CL) and Henkel (HENKY.PK) are hit with smaller fines. The companies "met secretly several times a year in hotels and restaurants to discuss pricing and discount strategies," the French antitrust authority says.

    The EU fines Unilever (UL +0.9%) and P&G (PG +0.4%) €315M ($456M) for fixing washing powder prices in eight countries. Germany's Henkel (HENKY.PK), which alerted the European Commission to the cartel, was not penalized.
