- The Nikkei rises 0.7% ahead of the BOJ's policy statement, as investors search for bargains after yesterday's drubbing. Shares of Kubota (KUBTY.PK) are up better than 5% as the company's results top estimates.
- Elsewhere, the Shanghai Composite is largely flat while the market awaits Chinese trade data. The Kospi, ASX, and Hang Seng are all higher by around 0.5%.

After opening lower, the Nikkei rebounds, rising 0.86% in Tokyo led by a rally in shares of steel producers. Automaker Mitsubishi Motors (MMTOF.PK) and farm equipment manufacturer Kubota (KUB) lag. Despite the drought, the net income of U.S. farmers is set to hit a record $122.2B, the USDA has forecast. Farmers inside the "drought belt" are filing insurance claims to offset the damage to their corn and soybean crops, while those outside in the northern plains could earn 39% more due to record prices. "The machinery industry is one of the most attractive industries in the United States," says Zacks, citing Q1 growth in industrial production, manufacturing output, machinery shipments and new orders.
