Lincare (LNCR) surges 21.5% to $41.33, pretty close to the $41.50/share that Germany's Linde (LNAGF.PK) is offering to buy the company. The deal somewhat closes a circle, as Lincare was originally an offshoot of Linde at the start of the 20th century. Linde rival Air Liquide (AIQUY.PK +0.7%) is little moved by the news.

Linde (LNAGF.PK) plans to partly pay for its $4.6B acquisition of Lincare (LNCR) by raising up to €1.5B from the sale of new shares, news sent Linde's shares 3% lower in Frankfurt. However, analysts generally welcome the purchase itself.

Germany's Linde AG (LNAGF.PK), an industrial gas producer, said yesterday it would pay $4.6B to buy Lincare Holdings (LNCR), a provider of oxygen and respiratory services to in-home patients. The $41.50/share deal is a 22% premium to Lincare's Friday close. It may seem like a strange match but industrial gas suppliers have been pushing into the homecare market, which is growing 6-9% annually. (previously)
