MF Global (MFGLQ.PK) had been using client cash for "several days if not weeks" before its bankruptcy rather than, as previously thought, just a few days prior, Reuters reports. If true, it would pose the question why CME (CME) reviewed MF's books a week before the bankruptcy and found no problems.

The House Agricultural Committee passed a motion to subpoena Jon Corzine to testify regarding the downfall of MF Global (MFGLQ.PK) becoming the first Congressional committee to ensnare the ex-Senator although several more are reported to be pending their own action. The Ag panel is particularly interested in the effect on farmers who relied on the futures trader and now face financial ruin. Will Corzine plead the 5th if forced to testify?

Regulators are considering new rules for brokerages following MF Global’s (MFGLQ.PK) collapse, with the CFTC due to vote next week on restricting the use of customer money and the SEC looking to enforce new accounting disclosures.

The alphabet soup of regulators looking into shenanigans at MF Global (MFGLQ.PK) might get even more crowded if Sen. Richard Shelby gets his wish. The Alabama politician wants the CFTC to examine and write a report on the agency's oversight of the bankrupt trading firm and ex-Corzine lackey - and current CFTC Chairman - Gary Gensler's role (if any) in decisions related to the mess.

Dominion Resources (D +1.9%) files papers in MF Global's (MFGLQ.PK) bankruptcy court asking that the bankrupt parent company be barred from using cash in order to make it available to settle shortages in brokerage accounts that seem all but inevitable. The utilities company hasn't released specific information about its potential exposure, but has described it as "substantial."

More on MF Global's (MFGLQ.PK) demise: Jon Corzine bet $11.5B on European sovereign debt, nearly twice the net $6.4B disclosed to shareholders in August, despite objections from directors, traders and risk managers. He also relied on short-term hedges that left the firm exposed to even larger losses if they couldn't be rolled over. (see also)

MF Global's (MFGLQ.PK) trustee may finally have had a breakthrough in the month-long search for missing customer money, as ~$200M discovered at JPMorgan (JPM) in Britain is believed to belong to MF clients. MF apparently transferred the money in the days before it filed for bankruptcy to patch up part of an overdrawn account.

In private, regulators are questioning a bankruptcy trustee's estimate of $1.2B in missing customer funds at MF Global (MFGLQ.PK). They believe at least $220M has been double-counted, still meaning the shortfall is in the $1B ballpark. "The books are a mess and there are no straight lines that would make things easy," says a source with the regulators.

Zero Hedge calls Louis Freeh the "perfect man" to get to the bottom of the shenanigans at MF Global (MFGLQ.PK). The ex-FBI director was appointed to be the Chapter 11 trustee in the bankruptcy case - giving him blanket authority to coordinate with regulators in a search for assets.

The Congressional panel looking into MF Global's (MFGLQ.PK) collapse plans to study whether Jon Corzine's "star power" clouded the judgement of the ratings agencies, which only downgraded the firm just before or just after its collapse, the WSJ reports. Given MF's EU exposure, the alarm should have been raised sooner, an analyst says.

A judge approves the appointment of a bankruptcy trustee for MF Global (MFGLQ.PK), meaning current management will no longer be in control of what remains of the company. Though no one has yet been charged with wrongdoing, a trustee's appointment is sometimes a signal company executives are suspected of illegal activity.

JPMorgan (JPM -1.1%) does a little bargain shopping, as it closes in on picking up MF Global's (MFGLQ.PK) 4.7% stake in the London Metal Exchange. Sources tell Reuters that the $39M deal - which would up JPM's stake in the LME to over 10% - could be announced as soon as next week.

The shortfall in segregated customer accounts at MF Global's (MFGLQ.PK) broker-dealer unit is larger than originally reported by the firm, according to trustee James Giddens. A statement from Giddens states that even if he recovers everything that is held at U.S. depositories, a $1.2B gap exists.

Could the selloff in risk since Halloween have as much to do with MF Global as it does with Europe? If assets in segregated customer accounts can be stolen from right under the eye of regulators, Peter Brandt asks, is anything safe anymore? "The U.S. government's regulatory duty to protect investors is worthless. Suck on this truth," he writes.

JP Morgan (JPM) is among several suitors for MF Global's (MFGLQ.PK) 4.7% stake in the London Metals Exchange, reports say. Buying the holding would increase JP Morgan's ownership to 10.9% and alter the dynamics in the £1B ($1.6B) takeover battle for the 134-year old institution.
