The firm's genetically-modified corn seeds are becoming a bit of a juggernaut, as it successfully navigates lawsuits and reports of "super bugs" to plow ahead and commercialize engineered crop enhancements.

    Australian chemicals supplier Nufarm says it has settled a dispute with a supplier over a $58M receivable, forcing the company to take a bigger writeoff than expected. Though Nufarm did not name the supplier, the Sydney Morning Herald reports Monsanto (MON +1.6%) is the company in question.

    The EU's top court backs up a no-tolerance policy on genetically modified organisms by saying even honey containing trace amounts of genetically-altered pollen cannot be sold without special approval. The ruling is seen as a potential blow to Monsanto (MON -2.9%) - if collateral damage from its genetically modified corn limits production.

Monsanto disputes concerns that biotech crops could produce resistant "superbugs," saying its rootworm corn seed lines are 99% successful.

    Monsanto (MON) plans to enter the consumer market with a new genetically modified sweet corn that could end up in grocery stores around the country. The "triple-stack" corn will use the same genetic modifications to resist bugs and pesticides already used in corn grown for sugar, oil and animal feed.
