A major management shake-up is on tap for Microsoft's (MSFT -1.8%) Entertainment & Devices Division, the unit that handles the Xbox and Windows Phone. Sources expect an announcement as soon as this week, as heavy competition from Google (GOOG) and Apple (AAPL) has left Microsoft both lagging and worried.

Hedge funds still love Apple (AAPL) the best, according to Goldman Sachs' (GS) quarterly report, followed by BofA (BAC), Google (GOOG), Microsoft (MSFT) and JPMorgan Chase (JPM). Among the newcomers to the list: Baidu (BIDU), Kraft (KFT), Xerox (XRX), CIT Group (CIT). But the hedgies miss sometimes too, as evidenced by Google's 20% thud this year.

Continuing trouble with software piracy in China has Microsoft (MSFT) looking more to India and Indonesia, CEO Steve Ballmer says. "There's no software market to speak of" in China, and the U.S. needs to enforce intellectual property: "If the U.S. is going to export to Asia, it’s going to export IP, whether it’s in pharmaceuticals, technology."

Four tech firms - Apple (AAPL), Microsoft (MSFT), Cisco (CSCO) and Google (GOOG) - sit on the largest cash piles in the S&P 500, excluding financials. It's a combined $147B, enough to bail out Greece. Possible uses for all that dough: Share buybacks, acquisitions such as SAP-Sybase and HP-Palm. Not likely: Dividend payouts.

The missive missile fired by Steve Jobs (AAPL) at Adobe (ADBE) turned heads because of the two companies' history together. But Charlie Stross has a detailed argument for the real reason Jobs hates Flash: The iPad isn't just another nice-device rollout, it's an all-or-nothing bet on the future of the company in a post-Microsoft (MSFT) era that's rushing toward us.
