More on Wal-Mart/AMEX (previous): Against Bluebird's long list of $0 fees is Green Dot's (GDOT -20%) $5.95 monthly fee with 62% of its business coming from Wal-Mart - a "death blow," writes firstadopter. Also keep an eye on NetSpend Holdings (NTSP -5.2%), another provider of prepaid debit cards.

More on Wal-Mart/AMEX's Bluebird (previous): By partnering with AXP, it appears WMT has made its move into banking (previously denied to it in the 90s by Greenspan, among others). On the conference call, it's indicated Bluebird will move into check-writing in 2013. Monthly fee $0, Set up fee $0, Direct Deposit fee $0. (PR)

Shares of NetSpend (NTSP +12.5%) pop after M&A chatter swirls around the firm and rival Green Dot (GDOT +3.5%) receives a favorable report from Wedbush highlighted with an Outperform rating. The sector should get a hard look from investors this week with the Jefferies 2011 Electronics Payments Summitt in full swing in New York.

NetSpend (NTSP +6.9%) shares burst higher with M&A speculation making the rounds, as a Reuters story describes its depressed stock price and cutthroat competition in the prepaid debit card market making it a potential takeover target. Green Dot (GDOT +1.6%) is seen as the likeliest buyer, with potential interest also coming from Capital One (COF +2.3%).
