    News Corp. (NWS +0.7%, NWSA +1.2%), struggling to deal with the fallout from its U.K. hacking/bribery scandal, says it will consider a new stock buyback plan to boost its "woefully undervalued" shares. The media giant says it will make a decision following the completion of an existing $5B buyback program, which thus far has been used to repurchase $2.7B in shares.

    Journalists at Britain's Sun newspaper paid large sums of cash to corrupt public officials, aware the practice was criminal, a press ethics inquiry hears. The disclosure could damage News Corp.     Goldman Sachs upgrades News Corp. (NWSA +0.2%) to Buy from Neutral with a price target of $24 from $21, calling NWSA one of the cheapest stocks in its coverage, as shares trade at 10.6x estimated 2013 EPS despite having among the fastest growth, 20% 2011-13 CAGR. The firm sees growth driven by new distribution deals and share repurchases.

    CBS (CBS -3.6%), looking to bolster tepid growth in its Entertainment division, mentioned during its Q4 earnings call that it's "talking to Netflix (NFLX) about a potential deal to produce a show for them." Along with its in-house production efforts, Netflix has already struck a deal with Twentieth Century Fox (NWS, NWSA) for the creation of new episodes of Arrested Development. (CBS Q4)

    Rupert Murdoch is to fly to London for crisis talks following the arrest yesterday of five senior journalists who work for News Corp.'s (NWSA) best-selling Sun daily tabloid. The arrests are part of a probe into the corruption of public officials and follow the detention of four executives two weeks ago for allegedly bribing police.

Among the biggest contributors to the quarter's performance was the latest "Alvin and the Chipmunks" movie, which generated more than $300M in world-wide box-office receipts. Shares -1.9% AH.

    Disney (DIS) is in talks with Univision to create an English-language cable news channel that would launch before the November elections. Such a move would put Disney in direct competition with Time Warner (TWX), News Corp. (NWS, NWSA), and Comcast's (CMCSA) NBC unit in the intensely competitive cable news market.

    News Corp. (NWS) may bid for Turkish media assets ATV and Sabah, sources say. Calik Holdings, which owns ATV and Sabah, has extended the deadline for preliminary bids until next week. The deal could bring in between $700M and $1B, or possibly higher if deep-pocketed bidders like News Corp. are involved in the sale.
