    • XPO Logistics (XPO) has agreed to acquire Pacer International (PACR +3.2%) for $335M in cash and stock, well above the latter's market cap of $294.3M at the close of trade on Friday.
    • Pacer is North America's third-largest provider of intermodal services, which move goods in containers between different forms of transport such as truck, train and ship.
    • XPO expects the acquisition to double its annual revenues to around $2B. (PR)

    Booming trade between Mexico and the U.S. is proving a boon to railroad, trucking and logistics firms. Union Pacific's (UNP) cross-border carloads, for example, increased 6% in the first nine months of 2012, well above its overall volume growth of 1%. Other companies that are benefiting include Kansas City Southern (KSU), CSX (CSX), Norfolk Southern (NSC), J.B. Hunt (JBHT), Swift Transportation (SWFT), Celadon (CGI) and Pacer (PACR).

    Pacer International (PACR) inks an agreement with Union Pacific Railroad (UNP) to arrange, manage and provide intermodal freight transportation services between the U.S., Mexico and Canada. PACR will also act as UNP's network logistics manager for cross-border shipments and provide rail container and chassis management services in Mexico.
