    Statoil (STO) adds to its stable of shale assets in Australia by signing new farm-in deals with Canadian partner PetroFrontier (PFRRF.PK) covering assets in the Southern Georgina basin which enable it to become operator with an 80% stake. STO may spend up to $160M by the end of 2016 if it decides to press ahead with further development.

    In a sign that today's Gulf of Mexico lease sale could result in significant bidding, Statoil (STO +0.6%) says it has placed bids on 32 blocks. The Norwegian company also says it has entered into Australian shale gas exploration projects through a JV deal with Petrofrontier (PFRRF.PK) in a "highly prospective play at low cost, with high risk but also with significant upsides."
