    • Resonant (RESN +27.1%) has struck its first licensing deal with an existing client. The agreement follows an engagement with the client outlined in an MOU announced in February.
    • CEO Terry Lingren: "This license agreement encompasses two high-volume Surface Acoustic Wave, or SAW, duplexer designs for filters traditionally fabricated as Bulk Acoustic Wave, or BAW duplexers." Design acceptance payments and royalty terms have been agreed upon, but will remain confidential. Resonant says there's "potential" one or both of the products covered by the deal could start producing revenue by year's end.
    • The news comes a day after Resonant announced the closing of a private placement worth up to $6M. The placement involved the sale of units (priced at $2.985 apiece) consisting of one share plus one warrant to buy a share at a $2.86 exercise price. The warrants can be exercised during a period that starts in six months and lasts for three years.

    • Resonant (NASDAQ:RESN) has signed an MOU with an unnamed client to develop SAW deplexers for three separate bands. The deal features an up-front payment, along with additional payments following the completion of the designs.
    • The deal is said to bring the number of filters Resonant is working on via MOUs to five. The company adds it has "ongoing development projects" for multiplexers and a tunable filter design. An MOU with an existing client - it involved "SAW designs for two traditionally BAW bands" - was announced two weeks ago.
    • Resonant's Q4 report arrives on March 24. The company's market cap is $12M.

    • Drexel Hamilton has launched coverage on RF chipmaker Qorvo (QRVO +1.6%), tunable RF filter developer Resonant (RESN +2.9%), and specialty foundry TowerJazz (TSEM +4.7%) with Buy ratings. Qorvo rival/TowerJazz client Skyworks has also been started at Buy, but is nonetheless down slightly.
    • Qorvo, hammered in July by its soft FQ2 guidance, is down 31% YTD, and trades for just 8.8x an FY17 (ends March '17) EPS consensus of $5.45. Resonant, crushed by Skyworks' decision to terminate a development agreement, is down 66% YTD. TowerJazz is nearly flat on the year.

The company stated it believes it has enough cash to last through 1H16, and that it's "proceeding with the qualification process and [a] licensing agreement" with a filter manufacturer for its first product (a Band 3 duplexer). It reiterates a tunable filter prototype is expected to arrive by year's end.
