    • Resonant (RESN +27.1%) has struck its first licensing deal with an existing client. The agreement follows an engagement with the client outlined in an MOU announced in February.
    • CEO Terry Lingren: "This license agreement encompasses two high-volume Surface Acoustic Wave, or SAW, duplexer designs for filters traditionally fabricated as Bulk Acoustic Wave, or BAW duplexers." Design acceptance payments and royalty terms have been agreed upon, but will remain confidential. Resonant says there's "potential" one or both of the products covered by the deal could start producing revenue by year's end.
    • The news comes a day after Resonant announced the closing of a private placement worth up to $6M. The placement involved the sale of units (priced at $2.985 apiece) consisting of one share plus one warrant to buy a share at a $2.86 exercise price. The warrants can be exercised during a period that starts in six months and lasts for three years.

    • Qorvo, hammered in July by its soft FQ2 guidance, is down 31% YTD, and trades for just 8.8x an FY17 (ends March '17) EPS consensus of $5.45. Resonant, crushed by Skyworks' decision to terminate a development agreement, is down 66% YTD. TowerJazz is nearly flat on the year.

    • Resonant is two days removed from posting its Q2 report. The company stated it believes it has enough cash to last through 1H16, and that it's "proceeding with the qualification process and [a] licensing agreement" with a filter manufacturer for its first product (a Band 3 duplexer). It reiterates a tunable filter prototype is expected to arrive by year's end.

    • Resonant (NASDAQ:RESN) has released a 21-page technical white paper (.pdf) titled "Radically Reducing the Cost and Size of Cellphone RF Filters to Fuel the Mobile Revolution."
    • Resonant uses the paper to argue its duplexer design can deliver band insertion loss, signal isolation, transmit power, and size comparable to that of more costly FBAR designs from rivals, and reiterates it believes it can finish a tunable RF filter design by year's end.
    • The paper arrives 3 months after Resonant plummeted on news its development agreement with Skyworks had been terminated.

    • Resonant (NASDAQ:RESN) is up strongly two days after posting its Q1 results. The RF filter tech developer filed its Q1 10-Q after the close yesterday afternoon.
    • Resonant ended Q1 with $11.2M in working capital (down $2M Q/Q), and has reiterated it thinks it has enough cash to last until 1H16, assuming no revenue. $997K was spent on R&D in Q1, and $1.13M on G&A.
    • Shares remain down 61% YTD, after having cratered in April on news Resonant's development agreement with Skyworks has been terminated.

    • Resonant (NASDAQ:RESN) has "received notice that the development agreement with its first customer has been terminated, and that Resonant must pursue commercialization of its designs with this customer by working directly with the filter manufacturer."
    • Resonant intends to collaborate with the company, generally known to be Skyworks (NASDAQ:SWKS), to "continue to submit improved product designs for consideration by this customer for insertion into its product modules."
    • CEO Terry Lingren tries to provide a positive take: "While the probability has been reduced that our design will be selected for the customers original target product, we believe that the design for the band that we developed for the original product could be considered by this customer for use in next generation, follow-on modules ... we are now permitted to market the design for the same band to other potential customers."
    • Shares have plunged to $4.90 AH. They's now down 68% since Resonant disclosed in its Feb. 26 Q4 report its duplexer design had failed to meet Skyworks' specifications. The boost provided by a March 9 announcement that the company had landed a second customer proved short-lived.
    • Lingren reiterates Resonant is on track to provide the second customer a filter design in less than a year, and to finish its tunable filter prototype by year's end. "By the end of this year, we expect to have multiple products in development for consideration by several customers. Given recent developments with our first customer, however, we are re-evaluating our prior guidance regarding the timing of receipt of our first revenues."
