    • Rockwell Automation (NYSE:ROK) rose 4.2% in today's trade on speculation that Schneider Electric (OTCPK:SBGSF) may be preparing a takeover offer that values the maker of robotics software and equipment at $18B.
    • ROK is an “extremely attractive asset” that faces a tough market in the short term, Bernstein analyst Steve Winoker says, adding that Schneider has proven that it "can be very aggressive on the acquisition front when they want an asset."

    Honeywell (HON), Lockheed Martin (LMT) and Rockwell Collins (ROK) are reportedly among the strategic bidders that have made it to the second round of the auction for Carlyle (CG) portfolio company Arinc. Carlyle hopes to fetch $1.3-1.5B for the aerospace communications firm, which has also attracted offers from P-E firms such as Blackstone (BX). Carlyle is spending more time courting the industrial companies on the theory that they'll offer more money than the P-E funds.

    ABB (ABB -3.1%) responds to ongoing rumors that it's considering buying Rockwell (ROK -3.1%), saying that it's still considering acquisitions to fill gaps in their restructuring, however a potential bid for ROK is not in its plans.
