Online shoppers may come across some items on Sears' (SHLD -0.5%) website that seem unusual given the retailer's reputation as a seller of washing machines, lawnmowers, and tools. WSJ notes that those with deep pockets can purchase anything from a $33K Rolex to $500 Balenciaga sunglasses in the Marketplace section of sears.com. Eddie Lampert hopes Marketplace (which launched in 2010) can bolster SHLD's e-commerce business and help change the company's image. Some say the effort is misguided given the work needed on physical stores, from which SHLD derives ~97% of its revenue.

Sears Holdings (SHLD +1.5%) might have more infighting than any other major retailer if the reports of ex-employees are accurate. The competition between autonomous business units within the company is by the design of Eddie Lampert, but by most accounts it has created more dysfunction than efficiencies. The increasing criticism on Lampert focuses on the exec's dependence on financial and tech craftiness for a company that still needs some old-fashioned retail solutions.
