    • Total product sales jumped 10% Y/Y.
    • HeartMate II unit volume increased 9% on a global basis, with sequential growth in the U.S. market and robust growth internationally, driven in part a successful initial launch in Japan.
    • The company also affirmed its full-year sales target but slightly lowered profit expectations for the year, citing some recurring operating expense increases tied to the development of a product it recently acquired. It now sees full-year earnings between $1.69 to $1.79 a share. (PR)

Volume in the August $31 strike puts is 20 times open interest currently and puts outnumbered calls 35-to-1 as of noon. The stock has yet to recover from a post-earnings drubbing in early May.

    Thoratec Corporation (THOR -1.5%) says it's received FDA approval to market the HeartMate II Pocket Controller, the small face of the HeartMate II LVAD System. The device controls the left ventricular assist device or LVAD, which is a kind of mechanical heart which is put inside a person's chest, to help the heart pump oxygen-rich blood throughout the body.
