United Technologies (UTX +2.2%) CEO Louis Chenevert tells analysts share buybacks of up to $1B will resume in 2013, more than a year after repurchases were suspended during the Goodrich acquisition. Chenevert says UTX will not make any more large purchases, focusing instead on smaller deals costing a total of $1B next year.

United Technologies (UTX) sticks with its 2012 outlook, affirming EPS of $5.25-5.35 vs. $5.32 consensus estimate, and revenue of $58B-$59B vs $58.6B consensus. UTX also expects to pay down about one-third of debt issued for its acquisition of Goodrich by year's end. UTX +1.7% premarket.

United Tech's (UTX) Sikorsky Aircraft unit could benefit from the incompetence of its rivals: Norway may buy Sikorsky's Seahawk helicopters if the 14 NH-90 choppers that the country ordered from European consortium NHIndustries as far back as 2005 aren't delivered by the end of the year. Norway has received just one of the aircraft. The original order was worth 6.3B kroner ($1.1B).

The Air Force is today set to test the unmanned Boeing (BA) X-51 WaveRider "scramjet," which can reach a ridiculous 4,000 miles per hour. The idea of the trial is to sustain hypersonic flight for up to five minutes, double the previous record, and take the developers another step further to revolutionizing air travel. Also involved in the project is United Tech's (UTX) Pratt & Whitney.

Pratt & Whitney (UTX) is still assessing its legal obligations about notifying staff over potential layoffs due to the automatic defense spending cuts that are due to hit in January. This is despite the Labor Dept saying that the circumstances are too uncertain for a law about a 60-day warning period to apply. That period begins at the start of November, just days before the election.

United Tech (UTX +0.25%) closes its $16.5B acquisition of Goodrich after earlier saying it had received conditional U.S. and EU regulatory approval. The deal will add around $8B to United Tech's annual revenues and strengthen its presence on Boeing and Airbus jets.

China denies it used technology illegally supplied by United Tech (UTX) unit Pratt & Whitney to build an attack helicopter, saying it developed the aircraft "with completely independent intellectual property rights." Strange then that United Tech last month paid over $75M in fines and pleaded guilty to the accusations.

EU and U.S. authorities conditionally approve United Tech's (UTX +1.7%) $16.5B acquisition of Goodrich, with United Tech required to sell some power generation and aircraft engine controls operations. The company must also give Rolls Royce an option to buy its lean-burn fuel-nozzle R&D project. (PR)

More on United Tech (UTX +0.5%) Q2: net profit +1% to $1.33B. China's slowing economy and Europe's debt crisis reduce demand for UTX's elevators and jet engine parts. Cuts FY EPS guidance to $5.25-$5.35 from $5.30-$5.50 prior, and sales forecast to $58B-$59B from $61B-$62B. Consensus is for $5.45 and $61.29B. Expects to receive final Goodrich approval today.
