    Farnborough: GE (GE -0.35%) plans to start testing an upgraded version of its GE90 engine next year as it vies with Pratt & Whitney (UTX) and Rolls Royce (RYCEY.PK) to equip Boeing's (BA) next-generation 777. The plane will be made with the composite materials used in the 787 Dreamliner, making it lighter and cutting thrust requirements. (More on Air show)

    United Technologies (UTX) unit Sikorsky Aircraft signs a five-year $7.3B deal to supply the U.S. armed forces with H-60 Black Hawk helicopters and other versions of the workhorse aircraft, Reuters reports. The agreement is the eighth multi-year procurement of the choppers, and includes options that could add $1B-$2B to the value of the contract.

    A blow out in a Pratt & Whitney (UTX -0.7%) engine causes an El Al Israel Airlines (ELALY.PK) Boeing (BA -0.35%) 747 to make an emergency landing at London's Heathrow Airport just 20 minutes after taking off. "At no stage was there a danger to passengers or the plane," El Al says.

    United Technologies (UTX -2.2%) comes under fire today after pleading guilty to violating arms-export laws, as well as making false statements, regarding the sale of military technology to China. The company has agreed to pay a total of $55M in penalties to settle charges that its Pratt & Whitney Canada unit illegally sold modifications to electronic-engine-control software that will enable the Chinese to develop and produce their first modern military attack helicopter.

The potential sale is part of UTX's effort to focus more on its aerospace and propulsion segments and move away from businesses not seen as core. European regulators are also examining the deal.

It's less than the $1.5B United Tech said it would raise to help finance its $16.5B acquisition of Goodrich (GR), although the conglomerate says it has found other sources of cash. This could include the sale of three units, one of which is reportedly imminent. (PR)

    United Technologies (UTX) offers to sell assets to persuade the EU to OK the conglomerate's $16.5B purchase of Goodrich (GR), Reuters reports, although there's no word on what those assets are. The EU has expressed concern about the markets for engine controls, AC power generators, fuel nozzles and aftermarket services.

    UTX received about $38B in orders at relatively tight spreads to Treasurys on its $9.8B bond offering, which is being used to fund the $18.4B acquisition of Goodrich (GR). The sale was the largest this year and the 6th largest on record. That's how it's done Facebook, write Andrea Johnson and Danielle Robinson.

    United Tech (UTX +0.9%) CEO Louis Chenevert tells an investor conference that he's confident that the company's $16.5B acquisition of Goodrich (GR +0.4%) will close in July despite the EU giving itself until the end of August to complete an antitrust review. "We have done the right things to wrap this deal up," Chenevert says.
