    • The summer bond crash has fund managers shuffling money into equities, according to the BAML fund manager survey, which shows those overweight stocks rising to 60% in September - the highest level since February 2011. Digging a little deeper finds exposure to consumer staples (XLP) is the highest in 10 years, to European stocks the highest in 6 years, and an 11-year high for U.K. equities (EWU).
    • European stock ETFs: EZU, VGK, FEZ, EPV, IEV, ADRU, FEP, FDD, UPV, EPV, DFE, FEU, FEEU.
    • Blogger ukarlewitz digs even deeper and finds the spread between equity and bond ratings is the 2nd highest in the 12-year history of the survey.
    • Undermining this apparent confidence, notes BAML's Michael Hartnett, are cash levels that remain "exceptionally high" at 4.6%. He reminds of the rule to buy stocks when cash is above 4.5%, and sell when it falls below 3.5%.
    • Broad fixed income ETFs: AGG, BND, LAG, SCHZ, BOND, SAGG, MINCGYLD, INKM.

    • Global equities mostly drop prior to the start of the FOMC's two-day meeting today, when the Fed is expected to reduce its bond-buying program by $10B a month to $75B despite a tepid jobs report for August.
    • "Investors are pricing in $10B, but $20B or above could create waves, so people remain cautious ahead of the decision," says Global Equities' David Thebault.
    • China falls 2% following a sharp slowdown in foreign direct investment and a rise in money market rates.
    • Japan -0.7%, Hong Kong -0.3%, India +0.1%.

    • European shares are higher following Larry Summers' withdrawal from the race to become the next Chairman of the Fed, with the increasing prospects of a diplomatic solution to the Syrian crisis also boosting sentiment.
    • However, Asian shares are mixed and Chinese stocks slip 0.2% as technical indicators signal that equities are overbought.
    • The U.S. dollar index is -0.4% as markets contemplate the thought of new favorite Janet Yellen as Fed chief.
    • "Clearly the dollar doesn't like the idea it could be Yellen at the helm because of the interpretation that QE (stimulus) could be in place for longer," said Rabobank currency strategist Jane Foley.

    • European shares are solidly lower heading into the weekend, with the mood possibly dampened by a Nikkei report that QE skeptic Larry Summers is set to be named as Chairman of the Fed, although it's worth noting that U.S. stock futures are only flat to slightly lower.
    • Given that the report is coming from Japan, doubts about its veracity exist. "You have to wonder just how credible it is. I mean it would be understandable if the New York Times or the Wall Street Journal were reporting this," says one trader.
    • Investors may also be positioning themselves for a FOMC meeting next week, when the Fed could start tapering.
    • EU Stoxx 50 -0.3%, London -0.3%, Paris -0.1%, Frankfurt -0.3%, Milan -0.2%, Madrid -0.5%.
