    Verso Paper (VRS +72.6%) says it’s held discussions about a potential business combination involving NewPage Corp. in a proposed transaction valued at more than $1.43B. Bankrupt NewPage says its 2011 net sales totaled $3.5B; it owns paper mills in six states with combined production capacity of ~3.5M tons/year.
