    Carol Bartz (YHOO -0.2%) at least has one fan: 24/7's Doug McIntyre says "CEO performance is relative, particularly to the results of similar companies, firms in the same sector. Bartz has not done badly by that measurement. Actually, she has done relatively well," recent turmoil aside.

    Sources say Yahoo (YHOO) was the mysterious counterbidder that derailed Google's (GOOG) $550M acquisition of Yelp last December. Yahoo came in with an offer $200M richer, but that didn't happen either because Yelp's management team refused to work for Yahoo.

    Raising pressure on Yahoo (YHOO) to divest its Asian assets, ThinkEquity's Aaron Kessler reckons that its stake in Yahoo! Japan is worth $4.88/share, in $2.10/share, and in Alibaba Group $5.61/share. All told - at $12.59 per share - Asia accounts for most of Yahoo's current share price.

    Yahoo's (YHOO +4.4%) Carol Bartz shoots down speculation that it is nearing a sale of its stake in Alibaba (ALBCF.PK), saying the relationship is a smart way to invest in China. Alibaba "constantly" approaches Yahoo about repurchasing its stake, Bartz says, but Yahoo has no plans to sell it.

    Yahoo (YHOO +3.4%) shares rise after a Susquehanna analyst says the company is in talks to unload its 39% stake in Alibaba (ALBCF.PK) for as much as $11B, citing a report from a Chinese web site that claimed a venture capitalist says a deal is pending. A recent TechCrunch report says CEO Carol Bartz has destroyed Yahoo's relationship with Alibaba.

    Microsoft's (MSFT -0.3%) Bing climbs to second place among U.S. search services, passing Yahoo (YHOO) and trailing only Google (GOOG), a Nielsen report says. Bing sported a 13.9% share of search volume in August, compared to Yahoo’s 13.1% - both far behind Google at 65.8%.
