Shares of AirTran (AAI) are down 15% after the low-cost carrier announced a follow-on offering of 9M shares, with underwriters having the option for another 1.4M, and a further $75M in convertible senior notes. Co. says it will use proceeds "for general corporate purposes." (PR)

Airlines get a boost from JPMorgan, which notes passenger demand, lower fuel prices and mild weather have cooperated to vanquish much of the anxiety over possible bankruptcies. Firm upgrades the two most vulnerable carriers, lifting UAL (UAUA +12.4% premarket) to Overweight and US Airways (LCC +5%) to Neutral, but downgrades JetBlue Airways (JBLU -1%) and AirTran (AAI -0.6%).
