- Monday, November 22, 2010, 9:28 AM Apple (AAPL) has launched iOS 4.2 for its family of devices. It offers 100 features, such as multi-tasking, that make the "iPad a completely new product, just in time for the holiday season,” states CEO Steve Jobs. Premarket Apple is -0.3% to $305.75. - Saturday, November 20, 2010, 2:24 PM In a vote of confidence for RIM (RIMM), SAP (SAP) says it's readying mobile versions of its business software ready for RIM's Blackberry Playbook. RIM, which lags Apple (AAPL) and Android (GOOG) on apps, is hoping a smaller but higher quality selection of business apps will let it catch up in the key tablet market. 1 Comment [Tech]
- Friday, November 19, 2010, 1:53 PM Nokia (NOK -2.3%) is downplaying reports the flagship N8 smartphone is plagued with a power malfunction. Nokia admits a 'small number' of handsets are affected, and are covered by warranty. However, even small flaws could frustrate Nokia's intended momentum against the iPhone (AAPL) and Android (GOOG). Comment! [Tech]
- Friday, November 19, 2010, 11:46 AM Chinese electronics manufacturer Foxconn (FXCNY.PK), a key producer of iPhones (AAPL) and iPads, faces worker protests over pay and relocation plans. The company has promised to improve working conditions and raised wages. 3 Comments [Tech]
- Friday, November 19, 2010, 8:14 AM Sources claim Apple (AAPL) risks a 'war' with Vodafone (VOD) and other European carriers over a proposed new iPhone SIM card. This SIM chip would allow customers to immediately access Apple's website and services - but also to switch carriers or demand shorter-term agreements. Operators may cut their Apple phone subsidies to block the SIM. 3 Comments [Tech]
- Thursday, November 18, 2010, 2:00 PM Apple (AAPL) is +2.8% after announcing a European launch of its iAd mobile advertising network next month. It currently competes in this space in the U.S. with a number of rivals, including Google (GOOG). Apple claims more than half of the U.S. 25 top advertisers are signed on. 2 Comments [Tech]
- Thursday, November 18, 2010, 1:17 PM Chinese media claims Apple (AAPL) is on the verge of cutting a mobile distribution deal with China Mobile (CHL). Increased cooperation could be a "meaningful opportunity" for Apple, given China Mobile's 569M subscribers. 1 Comment [Tech]
- Thursday, November 18, 2010, 12:49 PM Investors are scooping up shares in Asian PC and component makers like Acer and Lenovo (LNVGY.PK) on hopes their upcoming tablets will mimic the iPad's (AAPL) success. But analysts warn the vendors may just flood the market amidst softening demand. Beware of a pricing war. Comment! [Tech]
- Thursday, November 18, 2010, 12:12 PM App downloads from Nokia's (NOK) online Ovi Store jumped to 3M daily from 1.7M in May, helped by Nokia's new smartphones. But Nokia's handset market share has sunk to 28.2% from 36.7% a year ago, while Apple (AAPL) and Android-based vendors (GOOG, MOT...) gained ground. Comment! [Tech]
- Thursday, November 18, 2010, 10:49 AM As of October, Android (GOOG) and Apple (AAPL) both own 37% each of the smartphone ad market in the independent Millennial Media's 54M-strong mobile ad network. In June, Google owned a 17% share compared to Apple's 56%. Comment! [Tech]
- Thursday, November 18, 2010, 10:16 AM Apple (AAPL) co-founder Steve Wozniak predicts Android (GOOG) will become the dominant smartphone platform, despite its flaws compared to iOS. "Apple has the direction for the entire world," he says. "Android phones have more features." 5 Comments [Tech]

Thursday, November 18, 2010, 5:27 AM
Qualcomm (QCOM) CEO Paul Jacobs predicted that smartphones will rise from 15% of the phone market in 2009 to 45% in 2014, when 900M units will be shipped. While relevant for AAPL, MOT, NOK and RIMM, the forecast is also interesting for owners of semiconductor stocks like ARMH, BRCM, INTC, MIPS, MRVL, MXIM, NVDA, QCOM and TQNT, since smartphones require more expensive chips.
4 Comments [Tech] - Thursday, November 18, 2010, 2:20 AM Which stocks will benefit and which will lose from Apple's (AAPL) growth? A quick search for companies mentioning "iPhone" on their conference calls this quarter may provide some clues. 4 Comments [Tech]
- Wednesday, November 17, 2010, 5:10 PM After reporting 44% y/y revenue growth for the quarter and beating the consensus earnings estimate by a penny, WiFi network provider Aruba Networks (ARUN) trades up +3%. The stock, viewed by some as a way to play AAPL's iPhone and iPad sales in the enterprise, has doubled since May. [PR] Comment! [Tech]
- Wednesday, November 17, 2010, 4:03 PM Sources claim AT&T's (T) exclusive relationship as U.S. wireless carrier for the iPhone (AAPL) will soon end, and the operator is now scanning the device manufacturer horizon for similar deals. Sources say Verizon Wireless (VZ) will sell the iPhone early in 2011. Comment! [Tech]
- Wednesday, November 17, 2010, 3:42 PM Apple (AAPL) is naming one-time Northrop Grumman (NOC) CEO Ron Sugar as a director. Sugar adds some enterprise know-how to the board, given his role in building up Northrop's own IT service business for government and healthcare. The board now has experts in retail, politics, and cosmetics, as well as software. 2 Comments [Tech]

$GOOG TV is a huge mess, $MSFT XBox is successful but barely makes money. But if $AAPL fails to succeed at TV, they are doomed. Huh? - View all 10 replies
-
Dennis Baker: XBox TV is the best of what's out there, but its working within the market not challenging and transforming it. -
Dennis Baker: I don't know if Apple can change TV significantly, but I can't see Apple making a TV unless going to significantly alter things.

$AAPL down 3 days in a row...it makes you wonder what is in store for next week... - View all 3 replies
-
Parsimony Investment Research: Tough to call...I would bet down...but it is also qtr end...and most funds are probably going to want to show $AAPL on the books... -
bailinnumberguy: Apple's 'down' over the 3 days was very modest. For the week, the stock was up. Profit taking, margin calls and option expiry at week end
