- Thursday, February 9, 2012, 11:19 AM There's Apple (AAPL), and there's everything else. In a slightly red S&P 500, Apple's stock stands out (nearly) alone as a big gainer, +3.5%. Comment! [Tech, On the Move]
- Thursday, February 9, 2012, 9:30 AM Apple's (AAPL) price target is upped to $665 at Cannacord, which cites monthly channel checks indicating "very strong sales trends" for the iPhone 4S at all three U.S. carriers and overall strong iPhone sales in international markets. The firm increases its March quarter iPhone estimates to 32.6M units from 30.1M. (also) 7 Comments [Tech]
- Thursday, February 9, 2012, 9:21 AM Apple (AAPL) plans to announce the launch of the iPad 3 in the first week of March, according to All Things Digital. Sources say the much-discussed next-generation iPad will feature a faster chip, improved graphics, and a retina display - falling in line with previous reports on the new device. Shares of AAPL +0.9% premarket. 4 Comments [Tech]
- Thursday, February 9, 2012, 8:18 AM Samsung (SSNLF.PK) notches up another victory in its world patent war with Apple (AAPL), as a German court backs a preliminary assessment that the Korean company's reworked Galaxy 10.1 isn't a copycat iPad. Samsung altered the design of the device to bypass a sales ban imposed in September. 1 Comment [Tech, Consumer]
- Wednesday, February 8, 2012, 3:02 PM Apple (AAPL +1.3%) and Sam's Club (WMT -0.1%) are in early-stage discussions on a plan to put Apple stores within Sam's locations across the U.S., according to a report from 9to5Mac. 6 Comments [Tech, Consumer]
- Wednesday, February 8, 2012, 11:53 AM Pacific Crest raises its estimates for Kindle Fire (AMZN) sales to 14.9M this year from a prior 12.7M forecast, or higher if AMZN comes out with new 7-inch and 9-inch models by summer. The estimates are based on a survey showing that 30% of consumers planning on buying a tablet computer this past holiday season intended to get a Fire vs. 38% for iPad (AAPL). 11 Comments [Tech]
- Wednesday, February 8, 2012, 8:50 AM Since Steve Jobs passed on Oct. 4, Apple (AAPL) has tacked on $90B - nearly a Facebook - to its market cap. While $100B - representing a PE of 100 and price-to-sales of 27 - might be expensive for Facebook, Apple trades at a PE of 13 and price-to-sales of 3.4. Still, after a run like that, even some Apple bulls believe the shares are due for a sell-off. 15 Comments [Tech]
- Tuesday, February 7, 2012, 6:49 PM Thanks to macro woes and tablet cannibalization, Western European PC shipments fell 16% in Q4, estimates Gartner. That's a decline worse than Q3's 11.4% drop, and much worse than the 1.4% drop reported last month for global shipments. H-P (HPQ), with a regional share of 22.2%, has plenty to lose from collapsing Euro demand. However, Apple (AAPL), which actually saw healthy shipment growth in the U.K. and France, is bucking the tide. Comment! [Tech]
- Tuesday, February 7, 2012, 3:14 PM As Apple (AAPL +1.1%) TV talk runs thick this week (I, II), Barclays' Ben Reitzes weighs in with thoughts on the potential impact: It could contribute $17B in revenue and $5.40/share in profits in FY 2013, or 11% of his current EPS estimate of $48.46. "Apple’s eventual television could be so much more than a TV... it is really not fair to compare it to products already on the market.” Comment! [Tech]
- Tuesday, February 7, 2012, 12:44 PM A rather grumpy Neil Young isn't giving up on the idea (video) that a new music player can be created that cuts into the sub-optimal way of listening to music that Apple (AAPL), Pandora (P), and Amazon (AMZN) has pushed the masses toward. He notes that MP3s and streaming music lose 95% of the data originally recorded in the studio and contends that a market exists for a higher-end device that allows listeners to hear music the way they artist intended. His answer to who will make the player: "Some rich guy." 42 Comments [Tech]
- Tuesday, February 7, 2012, 12:40 PM A day after Best Buy may have inadvertently leaked details about Apple's (AAPL) much-rumored TV set, The Globe and Mail reports Apple is in talks to sell the device through Canadian cable/wireless providers Rogers (RCI) and BCE. It's claimed Rogers and BCE already have prototype sets, and that the device can be controlled by either voice (Siri) or hand gestures. 3 Comments [Tech]
- Tuesday, February 7, 2012, 12:21 PM Apple (AAPL +1.1%) is sued by Proview Technology (Shenzhen) to stop it from using the iPad name in mainland China. The challenge follows one by Apple against Proview, which claims it owns the iPad name in the country. In December, Apple's claim was rejected by a Shenzhen court, and it has appealed to a higher court. Comment! [Tech]
- Tuesday, February 7, 2012, 6:55 AM Global energy giant Halliburton plans to phase out use of employee Blackberrys in favor of using the iPhone and iOS platform, according to a leaked internal memo. The loss is a hit to Research In Motion's (RIMM) goal to keep a decided edge over rivals in the enterprise market, as well another confirmation that Apple (AAPL) will be able to compete for large corporate accounts. 8 Comments [Tech]
- Monday, February 6, 2012, 5:39 PM Adam Lashinsky, whose recent book on Apple (AAPL) made plenty of waves (I, II), thinks the world's most valuable company may soon finally pay a dividend. Lashinsky notes a UBS report claiming management "has been soliciting the opinions of large shareholders" on the matter, as well as Tim Cook's FQ1 earnings call remarks about Apple "actively discussing uses" for its $97B+ in cash and investments. Comment! [Tech]
- Monday, February 6, 2012, 5:25 PM Motorola Mobility (MMI) reportedly has asked Apple (AAPL) to pay a 2.25% royalty on sales of some iPhones last year, representing potentially billions of dollars in licensing fees. An MMI letter from Oct. 2011 gives a glimpse into how much may be at stake in the ongoing patent struggles between mobile device makers. Comment! [Tech]
- Monday, February 6, 2012, 3:49 PM Looks like Research In Motion (RIMM -1.8%) has lost another client, as Halliburton (HAL) reportedly is phasing out employee BlackBerrys and phasing in iPhones and Apple's (AAPL +0.8%) iOS platform. BlackBerrys have been a staple for HAL's employees for more than 10 years. For Apple, it's further confirmation that it will compete for large corporate accounts. Comment! [Tech, On the Move]

XRTrader: The point is that technical analysis works, until it doesn't. It's a psychological construct that will be overpowered by news every time. -
XRTrader: I'm still adding to LONG AAPL position via sold $400 puts (put to price of $368 as of January 2014). Also long AAPL stock and $430 calls.

jamesingram32: well, looks like the bears and shorts have a 100% accurate crystal ball. They KNOW they will make money. Amazing. They must be very rich. -
DaLatin: Note: many shorts are protecting there long positions. Thus as the puts climb they cancel each other. Key is knowing when to exit.
