Steve Jobs: Not Dead Yet [view article]
Lisa points out correctly that this article, while necessarily repeating the core of the issue, does question the additional 'instructions' relating to Apple stock price. That is just as unsettling as the initial 'mistake' and would only encourage the further sale of the stock. ReplySteve Jobs: Not Dead Yet [view article]
It pisses me off because the last 2 times Apple has been on the cusp of moving up big reports about Steve Jobs health arise. The stock hit 180 a few months back and these 'health issues' dropped the stock 15 points. ReplySteve Jobs: Not Dead Yet [view article]
appl is an ipod/3g story, try not to spend too much time thinking about the things that don't matter. If he did die, we should worry about it... if bloomberg goofs, don't worry man.Reply

@KenCWell, of course I know that in China iPods are "mainly used for pirated music" - you can't argue with me on that. And yes, other MP3 players in the market are also primarily used for that purpose. BUT the manufacturers of other MP3 players do not take on a holier-than-thou attitude and claim to be above any links to piracy whereas Steve Jobs said,
“Let’s understand piracy first: I found you get really unreliable downloads. You have to try several times to get the song, and then you get it and find it was encoded by a ten year old with four seconds missing at the end. You don’t get to listen first, you don’t get artwork, and it’s stealing. We (via iTMS) offer fast, reliable downloads from our vast server farms – we are very, very good at this. It’s not stealing, it’s good Karma."
So isn't that bad karma that he's courting in China by his own definitions? Reply

Once again, let the chips fall where they may. To deny that there is gross manipulation of Apple stock by all the spin is ignorant.Reply

One other point: what's so amazing about the AAPL cheerleaders is they didn't even read this article carefully enough to understand that Kedrosky was criticising Bloomberg, not only for publication of the obit (that led the stock to fall without cause) but for the ethics of the journalism. ReplySteve Jobs: Not Dead Yet [view article]
An earlier commenter wrote: "At what point does a "lapse" like this constitute something akin to a business version of shouting "fire" in a crowded theatre?"Rumors about banks going under are crying "fire" in a crowded theater, because they cause a run on the bank which puts the bank out of business. Rumors (which this article wasn't in any case) about a company like Apple aren't, because the rumor doesn't damage its business.
If all the AAPL cheerleaders love the company and the stock (they often can't distinguish the two) as a long term investment, what do they care if it falls due to a false rumor? Surely it's a buying opportunity?
There seem to be a lot of nerves from these bulls... Reply

I'm with you mrtaxx. We'll just report the garbage here when we see it which is market manipulation and let the SEC and Government agencies track down and decipher which shorts, manipulators, fraudsters should be investigated and prosecuted. It's so easy to report these guys and then the cards will fall where they may. If it's real reporting, you have nothing to worry about. ReplyObama Plays - Fast Money Recap (8/27/08) [view article]
when do you place updated material on the website? I was here last night at 10:30 (CDT) and it was two day old material. rqballer@comcast.net ReplyObama Plays - Fast Money Recap (8/27/08) [view article]

Brandon says "If there were any new rumors we would have heard them by now"There is a seemingly well founded rumor that Steve Jobs will present at an Apple Special Event in September.
Will his appearance be less gaunt?
I guess a lot of folks are preparing for either scenario.
Meanwhile it is horrible that such pressures are put on the man Reply

At what point does a "lapse" like this constitute something akin to a business version of shouting "fire" in a crowded theatre? Apple stock is dropping today in an up market. Coincidence? This just doesn't pass the smell test, i.e., it stinks. Reply

mrtaxx seems to do nothing but cheerlead for AAPL - perhaps he should be investigated for pumping and dumping...[before you jump all over me, everybody else, it's a joke. You know, kind of like mrtaxx...]

thank you, KenC! obviously apple likes to control it's product. but it gives very good value for the cost and compared to other companies (microsoft comes to mind!) is fair to it's consumers. 99 cent tunes on itunes actually gave artists more $ than they would have made without the itunes store. and, the record companies choose to be there.MP3 players are all capable of being used for piracy...as are cell phones allowed into movie theaters. but you cannot blame that on the manufacturer.
