    • Active Power (ACPW) shares are down 5.1% on extremely light AH volume (400 shares traded) after the company missed expectations slightly in Q3. Forecasts had been lowered by a debacle-tinged warning from the company in Sept.
    • Revenue fell 34.7% Q/Q and 32.7% Y/Y to $13.2M in Q3. Gross margin fell to 30% from 34.3% in Q2 2013 and vs. 28.6% in Q3 2012.
    • The company selects Jay Powers to replace current CFO Steve Fife. Powers was formerly the VP of Finance of the U.S. Windows and Doors division of PlyGem Industries. The company appointed a new CEO at the end of Sept. and announced it will restate 2013 Q1 and Q2 results earlier this month due to the aforementioned fiasco.

    • Active (ACPW) has hired Mark Ascolese, currently the chairman of electrical infrastructure software vendor Power Analytics, to be its new CEO, effective Oct. 14. Ascolese will take over from chairman Ake Almgren, who has been serving as interim CEO since J. Douglas Milner's July resignation. (PR)
    • The appointment comes less than a month after Active shares tumbled thanks to a Q3/2013 warning and the company's disclosure a Chinese distributor isn't affiliated with major local IT services firm Digital China (as was previously announced).

    • Active (ACPW) says it won't hit its Q3 revenue and EPS targets, or its full-year revenue growth, adjusted EBITDA, and net income targets. The company blames weaker-than-expected Chinese sales caused by having a mistaken understanding of a Chinese distribution partnership. (PR)
    • Whereas Active previously announced it had struck a partnership with an IT services firm known as Digital China Information Service Company (a division of a Fortune China 100 firm), it actually struck a deal with Qiyuan Network System Limited, which is unaffiliated with Digital China.
    • CFO Steve Fife: "Our experience this year in China has been very disappointing and for now is unpredictable." Indeed.
    • Q3 results arrive on Oct. 29.

Active Power (ACPW +2.4%) moves up today after Ascendiant Capital initiated the shares with a Buy rating and $5.25 price target. Ascendiant says the company is in a great position to gain market share. Its patented flywheel UPS systems are disrupting conventional battery-based UPS systems, while its 'green' solutions achieve better efficiencies, provide greater reliability, offer a smaller footprint and a lower total cost of ownership than competing solutions.
