- Wednesday, November 30, 2011, 9:47 AM Adobe (ADBE), struggling to deal with soft Creative Suite sales and the slow demise of Flash, is working to bolster its ad technology offerings - recently singled out as a priority for the company. The latest proof comes via its acquisition of Efficient Frontier, a provider of online ad buying solutions across multiple platforms. Earlier this month, Adobe announced the purchase of video ad solutions provider Auditude. Comment! [Tech, M&A]
- Friday, November 25, 2011, 12:09 PM United States Steel (X +0.1%) is urging its shareholders to reject an unsolicited mini-tender offer from TRC Capital. TRC is attempting to acquire up to 3M shares of the company's stock at $24.50 per share. Other companies have faced mini-tender offers from TRC this year and recommended that their shareholders reject them, including: Adobe (ADBE -0.1%) and PPL (PPL +0.9%). Comment! [On the Move]
- Friday, November 11, 2011, 4:51 PM Adobe's (ADBE) decision to stop developing its Flash software for mobile devices may prove a hollow victory for Apple (AAPL), as less differentiated products may mean lower margins. HTML5, which Adobe will now support, should enable developers to create just one app that works with multiple mobile platforms and that can be downloaded via the web instead of proprietary app stores. (also) 4 Comments [Tech]
- Friday, November 11, 2011, 3:16 PM A disgruntled web developer sounds off on Adobe's (ADBE) handling of its decision to end Flash development for mobile devices. "HTML5 isn't ready for the desktop," he argues, and Adobe's move is likely to cripple Flash development on that front as well. He is, however, optimistic about the future of Adobe's AIR platform. Comment! [Tech]
- Wednesday, November 9, 2011, 12:20 PM Adobe (ADBE -7.9%) says it will stop developing Flash for mobile browsers, caving into criticism that Flash is too unstable for smartphones and tablets. It's a defeat for Adobe vs. Apple (AAPL -1.9%) in their long-running battle since Steve Jobs refused to allow Flash on iPhones and iPads, and means that developers may stop using Flash tools to produce video, websites and applications for delivery over mobile browsers. 15 Comments [Tech, On the Move, Top Stories, Breaking News]
- Wednesday, November 9, 2011, 11:21 AM Adobe (ADBE -10.4%) is getting clocked after issuing a 2012 guidance cut to go with its restructuring plan. JMP and RBC are downgrading shares in response, though others remain bullish: Bernstein is encouraged by Adobe's ongoing transition to a subscription-based revenue model, and Morgan Stanley thinks the company has pricing power for its Creative Suite line that isn't reflected in guidance. [On the Move] - Tuesday, November 8, 2011, 5:29 PM More from Adobe (ADBE): The company says it plans to "reduce its investment, and expected license revenue," in certain enterprise products. As a result, Adobe expects FY12 revenue growth of 4%-6%, below a 9% consensus. Adobe says it anticipates double-digit revenue growth down the line, but considering that's not happening this year or next, investors are likely skeptical. ADBE -7.3% AH. (previously) Comment! [Tech, Earnings, On the Move]
- Tuesday, November 8, 2011, 5:17 PM Adobe (ADBE) drops 7.6% AH after reaffirming its FQ4 guidance, and announcing it will cut 750 jobs (roughly 8% of its workforce). The company also says it plans to "align its business" around its faster-growing Digital Media and Digital Marketing (Omniture) solutions. Comment! [Tech, Earnings, On the Move]
- Tuesday, November 1, 2011, 3:03 PM Adobe (ADBE) has acquired Auditude, a provider of video ad management solutions for content providers. Much like a September product announcement, the deal is an attempt by Adobe to diminish the impact of HTML5's gradual displacement of Flash in the online video world, by offering a broader set of tools to its publishing customers. Comment! [Tech, M&A]
- Friday, October 28, 2011, 10:52 AM Avid Technology (AVID -13.8%) makes a new multi-year low after its Q3 report demonstrates cheaper solutions from Apple (AAPL) and Adobe (ADBE) continue hurting sales of its costly video-editing gear. Revenue of $165M (nearly flat Y/Y) missed consensus by $2M, while EPS of $0.01 missed by $0.07. Comment! [Tech, Earnings, On the Move]

[On the Move] - Wednesday, September 21, 2011, 9:45 AM Informatica (INFA) is up 4.8% after Roth's Nathan Schneiderman upgrades the data warehousing software firm to Buy, believing its recent selloff is overdone. As with QLIK (previously), Schneiderman is encouraged by ORCL and ADBE's results, and he also liked the "surprisingly bullish" tone struck by Informatica's CEO during a recent presentation. Comment! [Tech, Quick Ideas, On the Move]
- Wednesday, September 21, 2011, 9:16 AM Adobe (ADBE), which is up 4.7% premarket after delivering strong results and guidance, is rolling out new versions of its Flash Player and AIR development platform, claiming they deliver major performance gains over predecessors. Adobe is under pressure to make Flash more efficient and less power-hungry, as HTML5 continues gaining momentum. Comment! [Tech]
- Wednesday, September 21, 2011, 9:15 AM Market preview: Stock futures drift (S&P -0.1%) ahead of the Fed's 2:15 decision; when it comes out, investors may need some time to parse, meaning the initial market reaction could be a head-fake. ADBE and ORCL are higher after both tech firms beat expectations. Coal companies ANR and WLT slide after disappointing projections. Later: existing home sales. Comment! [Top Stories]
