Is EPA Ethanol Mandate a Joke? [view article]
Hey buddy, good on you for tearing a page out of my commie playbook. State planning is the way to go! Never mind that food prices are rising and people are going hungry because of misdirected investment in a sector that wouldn't exist without government mandates. You look pretty well fed yourself, so that's obviously not a concern for you. Reply

Is EPA Ethanol Mandate a Joke? [view article]
Pay closer attention. The new mandate is exactly what was prescribed under the Renewable Fuels Standard in the Energy Policy Act 2005. The EPA has *no* discretion in setting the mandate. Granted, it's unfortunate that their press releases are written to make it sound like they do. Reply

  • Ethanol Producers Face Price Pressures, Fundamental Questions [view article]
Dr. Pimental is correct and has low net energy results for corn-ethanol have been proven over and over again for the last 35 years. Mr. Wang is lying. He is a government laboratory employee who, if he does not come up with "the right numbers," will get neither promotion nor retention if there is a future RIF (reduction-in-force) affecting gov't energy agency/lab employees. In sum, it is much safer and wiser to trust Dr. Pimental's numbers, and all the other independent and unbiased experts when it comes to asking, "What is the real return in energy for all the energy invested in this technology?" Any other way of looking at it is stupid and naive or specious and special interest. Reply

Archer Daniels Midland: Manufacturing Fertilizer, A Fertile Source Of Income [view article]
Investors may have to formulate an updated tyake on ADMs future..it may go from low/mid tech chemical company to something much more like a vertically integrated food/fuel chemical supplier. They are certainly in an enviable spot in the agribusiness bonanza that is taking shape. Everything is due for a pullback and when it does I'm looking to reestablish a position. Reply

Archer Daniels Midland Enters Industrial Chemicals Market, A Good Place To Be [view article]
It's rare to run across a company that is as universally despised as ADM! Yet..they move forward..reinvent themselves..and without a doubt will come out on the profit making end of whatever down the road biofuel and ethanol solutions are forthcoming.
Don't know that I'd buy and hold..but would certainly look for one of those crazy bad weeks it has and gobble some up.

Thomas...did you get lost on the way to your 5th grade class and end up here? Please provide us with a detailed list of sufficiently ethical companies you think are suitable for investment...and don't give us ANY that are governemnt subsidized or engage in trade or commerce with repressive regimes...or abuse women. Or benefit from legislation that restricts free entry (EVERY Jones Act carrier for instance). Well..enlighten us.
ADM is a politically astute company that works the system..it also provides a decent set of products..employs several thousand American citizens...and has rather forward looking management that has its fingers in many essential resources in many places. Grow up.

I agree about Aventine. Certainly a great candidate for acquisition and a consolidation survivor. Also agree that Ethanol is here to stay. Rolling Stone Magazine, The New York Times and the LA Times can take their twisted up statistics and go jump in a lake. Every argument against Ethanol has been debunked. Lee's point is on the mark too. I'd rather live surrounded by Ethanol plants then next to one oil refinery. You guys should see the north side of Kuwait City. Looks like Batman's Gotham City. Good written's to gasoline. But I digress........Ethanol is a smart move, its day is coming. Reply
