AES Corp. (AES), the first U.S. power producer to enter China some two decades ago, is looking to sell all or some of its assets there, Reuters reports. The likely exit or scaling down underscores the challenging operating environment in China's power industry, where coal-fired power producers have little control over state-set electricity prices.

The continuing decline in natural gas (off 6.9% today) and resultant fall in electricity prices is shelving alternative energy projects from NextEra (NEE), Exelon (EXC), and CMS, but Michael Morris of American Electric Power (AEP) warns about becoming too dependent on gas. "The way to make $4 gas, $8 gas is for everyone to go out and build ... natural-gas plants."

Josh Brown hooks us up with an interesting spreadsheet created by a messageboard contributor. The project will track the performance of the 10 most-loved and most-hated stocks of Wall Street's analyst community. Very early in 2012, the most-hated stocks have the edge in total return, led by Netflix's (NFLX) near 23% gain.
