    PPL Corp. (PPL) acquires an AES Corp. (AES) subsidiary that operates a combined-cycle natural gas-fired power plant in Pennsylvania. The cost of the transaction runs $304M, including a $87M cash consideration.

    Shareholders of DPL (DPL +0.1%) approve a plan to merge with AES (AES +1.5%). The two energy companies expect to complete the merger in either Q4 or Q1 of 2012.

    Telecom Italia (TI -3.3%) is acquiring Brazilian fiber optic network owner AES Atimus, a unit of American power company AES, for approximately $1B. Telecom Italia, which already controls Brazil's 3rd-largest wireless carrier, expects the AES Atimus deal to "provide savings worth 1 billion Brazilian reais [$641M] over three years."
