Affymetrix Inc. Q1 2008 Earnings Call Transcript [view article]
The second half of the report above contains more valuable and more complete information than the first half, some of which is choppy and not well presented. ReplyAffymetrix Inc. Q1 2008 Earnings Call Transcript [view article]
The second half contains much more valuable information than the first half. I've followed Affymetrix for several years. It's nice to readhere a recent update of the clinical applications (with rapid through-put) and product development of their scientific breakthroughs, but there is more easily understandable information, and more about their partnerships at their website, and in other news headlines. Investing in Cancer Treatment: Six Stock Ideas [view article]
Thanks for the comment. I have owned VAR in the past and have been negative on it for a while but am now "neutral". If you search this website, you will find an article to which I responded that explains my position to some degree.I single VAR out because they are the clear, clear leader. For those investing in cancer treatment, they are the only choice, as Siemens is a huge (foreign) company and Elekta doesn't trade on any exchanges here. VAR is extremely innovative, and I have confidence that they will maintain their leadership in the future. My only question is really valuation, which is now much better.
As we look out into the future, expect that there will be cancer treatments that combine chemotherapy and radiation (radiation will "turn on" the molecule), and you can expect that VAR will be a leader in this field. Reply

Very useful piece. Thanks. Why do you single out Varian? There is some concern that Siemens et al are taking market share away from it. ReplyA Look at Japan and What I'm Buying [view article]
Steven,You continue to beat the drum (even if softly) for NIS (8571). But surely you must know that once a stock retreats far beyond the 100-yen line, the future, more often than not, is bankruptcy -- as in it just disappears, and shareholders get zip. Many institutions *must* dump the stock below 100 yen. Their charters require it. Okay, some issues are pushed below that line just for that reason. But somehow this doesn't look like the case here.
The issue is trading today (December 28, 2006) at 55 yen, (-2) (-3.51%), in a rip-roaring bull market.
The low is 48 ...
At some place ... you have to make a painfull decision, I reckon. Where would that place be? I mean other than zero, of course.
Regards,
Lance
Dislcaimer: I do not own, nor have I ever owned, nor, without a substantial explaination of the absurd stock splits and pink-sheet share price, would I ever own, NIS. Reply
