- Tuesday, December 11, 2012, 7:41 AM Last night's sale of AIG stock by the Treasury was oversubscribed says Bernstein, as "long-term investors took advantage of one last chance to buy the stock at a discount from the government." With no remaining overhang and many underweight the name, AIG is finally ready to break out of its $25-$35 range. Shares +1.8% premarket to $33.96, well above the Treasury's $32.50 sale price. 2 Comments [Financials, On the Move]
- Tuesday, December 11, 2012, 7:31 AM "Thank you America," says AIG CEO Bob Benmosche in the company reaction to the Treasury's sale of the rest of its stock. "Let's bring on tomorrow." Treasury will continue to hold 2.7M warrants on AIG stock - if they're priced anything like the TARP warrants, the sale of these may provide a tasty opportunity for investors. AIG shares now +1.2% premarket at $33.77, well above the Treasury's $32.50 sale price. 8 Comments [Financials, On the Move]
- Friday, December 7, 2012, 10:18 AM More on the AIG talks on ILFC: An official announcement of the sale of the unit to a consortium of Chinese firms could come early next week, reports Reuters, citing a source close to the situation. AIG +3.1%. 1 Comment [Financials, M&A, On the Move]
- Friday, December 7, 2012, 9:44 AM AIG gains 2.5% on news it may sell ILFC in a deal valuing the aircraft leasing unit at $5.5B. It may be less than what the company could fetch in an IPO, but then again, maybe not. In any case, it frees up more cash to repurchase stock at well below book value. Merrill Lynch likes what it hears, and reiterates the shares a Buy. Comment! [Financials, On the Move]
- Friday, November 2, 2012, 10:34 AM AIG is now off 5.5%, as headline earnings look nice, but core operations less so. The combined ratio for P&C stood at 105 in Q3, down only a hair from 105.9 a year ago (above 100 means the company is paying out more in claims than it receives from premiums). The ratio for Allstate and Travelers showed far greater improvement, with both now in the 90 range, notes KBM's Cliff Gallant, nevertheless raising his PT on AIG to $34 from $31. 11 Comments [Financials, On the Move]
- Monday, September 10, 2012, 10:20 PM The Treasury prices its 553.8M share offering of AIG at $32.50/share, raising $18B. As expected, AIG purchases about $5B of the offering. Giving itself a pat on the back, Treasury says it's recovered all and more of the $182B 2008 bailout of AIG, and still owns a 21.5% stake in the company. AIG -1.3% AH to $32.87. (PR) 3 Comments [Financials, On the Move]
- Monday, September 10, 2012, 7:08 AM AIG -2.4% premarket as the Treasury is set to become a minority owner of the company - its sale of $18B in stock would leave it with about a 23% stake. With the Treasury no longer holding a majority stake, AIG comes under the regulatory purview of the Fed (by dint of its ownership of a small bank). 4 Comments [Financials, On the Move]
- Friday, August 3, 2012, 3:19 PM AIG reopens for trade following the Treasury announcement to sell $4.5B of stock (and AIG to buy 2/3 of it). Up a little more than 1% ahead of the announcement, shares +0.5% now. Comment! [Financials, On the Move, Breaking News]
- Monday, July 23, 2012, 1:08 PM AIG (AIG -1.8%) reportedly is negotiating to buy the Woodbury independent broker-dealer business from Hartford (HIG -1.9%), an insurance rival that's divesting several businesses. The possible transaction comes as Hartford has faced criticism from big shareholder John Paulson, which over the past year has demanded HIG take action to improve its stock price. Comment! [Financials, M&A, On the Move]
- Monday, May 7, 2012, 8:34 AM AIG -7% premarket to $30.53 on word the Treasury unloaded another chunk of its stake at $30.50. Shares closed at $32.83 on Friday. 5 Comments [Financials, On the Move]
- Friday, May 4, 2012, 4:59 PM The U.S. Treasury says it has launched another public offering of its AIG common stock and that AIG has indicated it will purchase up to $2B in the offering. The size and price of the offering have not been determined. Treasury still owns ~1.25B AIG shares, or 70% of the insurer's common shares. AIG -3.2% AH. 3 Comments [Financials, Breaking News, On the Move]
- Friday, May 4, 2012, 3:58 PM AIG (AIG -3.8%) shares sink despite a largely favorable Q1 report, as investors eye an imminent sale of part of the Treasury's 70% ownership in the company. Shares have surged 40% YTD too, and Bernstein's Josh Stirling sees "a little bit of profit-taking,” plus the market may be overreacting to misunderstood comments regarding the insurer’s restructuring. 3 Comments [Financials, On the Move]
- Thursday, May 3, 2012, 4:07 PM AIG (AIG): Q1 EPS of $1.65 vs. consensus expectations of $1.12. Core insurance operating income of $2.4B and book value per share of $57.68 vs. year-ago $44.33. Shares -2.6% AH. (PR) 21 Comments [Financials, Earnings, On the Move]
- Monday, March 26, 2012, 2:23 PM AIG (AIG +3.1%) could reach $40 as it continues to shed non-core assets and begins a buyback program that should be much bigger than investors are expecting, Deutsche Bank believes. $15B-$20B worth of buybacks over the next year is "achievable... book value per share growth in excess of 30% is possible if shares continue to hover around their current price.” 1 Comment [Financials, On the Move]

AIA Group closes down 8.4% after AIG (AIG) confirms it sold 1.72B shares of the Asian life insurer, slightly more than the 1.7B it had planned, and did so at the bottom of its indicative price range of HK$27.15 to HK$27.50. AIG raised around $6B.
1 Comment [Global & FX, Financials, On the Move] - Friday, March 2, 2012, 11:49 AM AIG (AIG +0.2%) sold its $500M stake in PE firm Blackstone (BX -2.9%) through a block trade prior to today’s market open, CNBC reports. The sale is part of a capital raise for AIG, as it seeks to pay back the U.S. government from its 2008 bailout. BX has long been an adviser to AIG, but the sale marks building tensions between the two firms. 1 Comment [Financials, On the Move]

ComputerBlue: Good to see the healthy pullback today. $40 is a tough resistance point. This isn't a bad time to add but we could see a little more of drop
