But the new guidance implied significantly higher than expected operating costs; excluding the impact of maintenance, the firm estimates gross profit per ton will decline 13% Q/Q. Monday, June 17, 8:58 AM AK Steel (AKS) sees a higher than expected Q2 EPS loss of $0.38-$0.33, which may not compare to -$0.09 consensus estimate, but expects a 4%-5% increase in shipments Q/Q to 1.34M-1.36M tons due to strength in the automotive market.
